Here is a picture of the current placement(pics are of older hardware though)
PumpView.jpg

It's attached to the hard drive cage...which obviously is problematic if I wanted to remove the drives ever and it's also very difficult to tighten to it.

I can't think of a different easy position though. Anyone got an idea?

New parts:
intel 2500k
asrock z68 extreme3 gen3
8gb ripjaws
raystorm CPU block
mcp655 pump instead of that older mcp300 or w/e the model was...it's 7 years old though
danger den dreamflex uv red tubing

looks like I'll have to stick with it huh? crucial m4 SSD will go above the HDD cage on brackets that came with the case, I currently have 2 500GB f3's and a 74gig raptor in the cage - I think I'll just take out the raptor and use the other drives as storage or maybe 1 storage 1 linux something like that

as long as your res/t-line is above the pump and immediately before it, it doesn't matter where the pump itself is located.

my concern was just how complicated it is to have it where it is...but that I can't think of any other decent option

my water cooling loop is very difficult to remove...and the hard drive cage is locked in place as well because of how I chose to organize it

A possible might be just below the CDR in the 5.25 bays if you do not intend to add another.

They make brackets which you can attach to your front 120mm fan.

Have any better pictures of the setup?

You could get some aluminum from the hardware store and bend/cut/drill it to slide into the drive bays. Then you can mount the pump just below the hard drive cage instead of to it. Or you could try to suspend the pump in between the drive bays.

I have a CoolerMaster 830 EVO which has the same HDD cage, I did something similar.

My HDD is on the bottom of the case in front. CoolerMaster makes an aluminum cage that I used to replace that heavy steel one.
I then mounted my mcp 655 on the top of the cage using the BitsPower mounting bracket and I also installed a BitsPower custom pump front.

You could do the same, you'd just have to put your pump on top where that space is, rather than on the bottom.

I do agree, mounting the pump to the HDD cage makes it a real challenge if you have to access the drives. I have to take the pump loose, remove the cables and the cage and slide it out kind of sideways......

I just bought a Corsair 800D and am in the middle of modding it so I don't have to go through this manuever anymore. Although I love my CoolerMaster, I've had it for about 5 years and tons of little improvements.

Only when filling the loop. After that it doesn't matter at all. There is no reason to stick the restrictive resevior before the pump. :p

Pump at bottom of case always Sucking from rez. You want positive water volume for your pump at all times, you do not want to pressurize your rez, it may leak and it is a restriction. Placing pump at lowest point also eliminates the chance of lack of water for lubrication and cooling the pump impeller and adds some back pressure for added performance.
