Ok. So I liked my Laing D5. I bought it used. It is a whole new kind of badass, and it's quiet, even on the highest setting. With this in mind, when I went to set up a second loop I looked for another Laing. I found a great deal on a Laing DDC-3.1 (Swiftech MCP-350) with Petra'sTop DDCT-01s on it from another member here at [H].

The thing sounds like a damn acquarium pump. I have it mounted on little rubber isolators, but it's still really loud. WTF.

Sometimes theres a reason people sell stuff...

Hmm... I know you know your WC gear, so I'm assuming the loop is totally air free.

Perhaps the bearing is screwed up?

Yes, zero air. I let it bleed for days just to be sure. Still rather noisy, even compared with the D5 on max.

You can replace the bearings in these, right? I have no idea what Laing replacement parts run.

What kind of noise is it? Buzzing? Rattling?

I ask, because I've always found my DDC 3.2 way louder than people described. It was bought brand new though.

The "whomwhomwhom" kind of buzzing -- like a cheap aquarium pump, though admittedly not quite that loud. I'm thinking about putting something together to to drop the voltage to it and see if it shuts up.
