Pump cutoff based on temp?

Is there a good way to control the cutoff of a pump based on cpu temp? The pump would not be running off the psu.

The idea being that the pump would continue to run for a few seconds after the PC is shut down until the temp drops below a certain point.
 
You could get one of those devices that keep the fan's running for a bit. Instead of powering a fan with it, use it to control a relay thats on your pump's power line.

Are you going to keep the fans running too? Otherwise the water might not even cool down. Why do you want the water to cool down anyhow? It doesn't matter after the CPU is off.
 
It may even be better not to do that, rapid changes in temperature can do more damage than the heat itself.
 
It only takes a few secounds for all the heat from a core that has just been shut off to be absourbed into the water, so it won hurt anythign if the pump and CPU are shut off at the same time. I wouldnt worry about it...

Now, if i can find a temp prob that has an alarm on it, I could build a relay that shuts off the system if the core reaches a certian point...just have the alarm trigger a relay that is attached to the power on pinns on the mobo....that would be cool

(Due to a number of problems, such as pump failure)
 
Well it wouldn't be a rapid change because it would only run until it dropped a couple degrees. Not for a set amount of time. And the fan that cools the rad is on the same power as the pump.

I was just looking for a creative way to shut the thing down without having a relay so that it shuts down at the same time.
 
well you could do it with something like a digidoc (which would have to be connected to the same power line as the pump)

then set the digidoc to turn the "fan" off below whatever the temperature you want, except it is controlling a relay instead of a fan.

if the pump is running on mains voltage, then this wont work unless you get a small power supply for the 'doc (it needs 5 and 12 volts)

you could also build a small circuit with an IC if you are up to doing some electronics, and not wasting 8 channel digi doc on 1 thing :)
