Pump causing problems with monitor

Recently I wanted to move my computer up to the top of my desk near my monitor but when turning on the computer the magnet from my pump causes my monitor to start shaking so that it hurts to read text look at etc.

Is there any type of material that would block the manget from messing with my monitor? Or perhaps a better pump I should look into getting?

You need to encase the pump in some sort of ferromagnetic material, meaning Iron (not steel, some types are antimagnetic), Cobalt, or nickle (sp?). Iron would be best, but get magnetically 'hard' iron, otherwise you'd have a nice little magnet sitting there aftert a while, which would screw up your monitor even more...

Yup, it's gotta be sheilded. Can't let those nasty field lines leave the casing!!
I can't remember what material to use, but someone else does! (ie: Grabbi)

Are there any pumps around that are just not magnetically driven?
Yes, but you won't like paying for them

And Grabbi- I think most steels should work fine. Stainless steels may not, as many are not ferromagnetic, but the rest are.

Mu-metal is best
and no you dont get it from cows :p

look up Faraday cage, it neednt be completely enclosed
(your monitor may have such a shield)
and mu metal foil is readily available

High permeability Material exellent for Shielding DC, ELF & VLF Magnetic Fields"
Mu Metal

Magnetic shielding (Mumetal) protects electronic circuitry, electron beam in a cathode ray tube like VDT, TV, computer etc.and it separates the victims from magnetic interference (EMI). Usually, the sources of this interfernce are permanent magnets, transformers, motors, solenoids and cables. It is now available at affordable prices for home and office use. This mumetal alloy (80% nickel, 15% iron, 4.2% molybdenum) is easy to trim with scissors and shape by hand. Can be formed into magnetic barriers on VDTs, buried wiring, speaker and more. With snug fitting shapes, get as much as 70% attenuation of the magnetic field with one thickness. Use multiple layers for even greater reduction. The shield shape plays an important role in the reduction of the of the magnetic sources. Closed shapes are the most effective for magnetic shielding such as cylinders.
We recommend the use of an accurate gaussmeter made by Integrity Design to determine the proper shape and positioning of the shielding, and to confirm that the fields have been adequately reduced.
CAUTION: Foil has sharp edges, We suggest to wear a special gloves
