OK folks I am about to pull the trigger with NewEgg and here are the goodies on the list.

MB Asus RE2
CPU I7 965 EE
VC 2 x 280 GTX SSC EVGA
HDD's 2 x WD VR 300's
RAM 12GB Corsair TR3X6G1600C8D...I have these
PSU Silverstone ZM1200M 1200W
Samsung 305T Display, 25 x 16 here I come!
LG Blu-Ray Burner
Case Silverstone TJ-07, this will be my third!

I will be using my XFX Sata card from the old rig along with the 3 x 500 Seagates

The rest will go on E-Bay.

Any suggestions for change are welcome, and before you ask, I love overkill.

As you are getting a Blu Ray drive, you will be much better off with 2x 1TB drive if you want to host your movies on your PC.
ie Casino Royale straight rip is 48GB ! You can use other tools to strip out just the movie but its still going to be 15 to 30GB.

The newer 330GB/platter drives are damn quick!
I'm using the Samsung F1 Spinpoint HD103UJ 1TB and it is a truly great drive and the price is really low.
Seagate and WD also make drives with 330GB/platter.

My setup contains similar components except the PSU is an ES-800, the case is a Silverstone KL03, and my vid card is an EVGA 9800GX2, and my Velociraptors are 150s vice 300s. Glad I bought my Corsair from N.E. before they ran out today.

I typically do not worry about the cost, but NE would only allow 1 6GB kit when I tried to order. I went to ZZF and purchased 2 kits for $6.00 less and 70% less on the shipping. Go figure? And of course the economy sucks and nobody has any money;)
 
Thinking about building a similar rig but with a 4870x2. Let us know how it overclocks, if you do.

Will do and I will OC. I was leaning in the 4870x2 direction but after reading the reviews of the nvidia and ati games head to head I chose 2x280's.
 
why spend so much for expensive edition when a 920 can get within 200mhz of it for much less money? you wont notice anything except for some people may be impressed on line, however an equal amont will think you bought that just to brag.

Think what else you could get for $750 that wont be obsoleted in a few months.

What do you think the average OC, well on air at least, on a 920 is? 3.6ish, maybe 3.8. The 965 will prob hit 4.5 on air. Besides if you got the money, why not :).
