I managed to spill a drink directly into to the top of my machine. The MB was definitely dead so replaced that with an Asus K8N-E. I couldn’t get a boot so I replaced the memory with a stick of 256 (on the approved vendor list) from another machine. I got a boot, but screen was covered with meaningless symbols. I tried the video card (ATI 9600XT) in another machine, but got the same. Found a 128 rage pro to use until the one I ordered (ATI 9800PRO) came in. That seemed to work ok so I proceeded to load the OS on two Maxtor 120 SATAs in RAID 0. Everything was going ok until a reboot and one of the drives would not show up in the SIL controller. Try as I might, I could only get one drive to show up at a time. So I tried installing the OS again on a Maxtor 80 IDE. The install got about three quarters of the way through when I got this error message
Machine_check_exception 0x0000009c (0x000000004,0x000000000,0xb2000000,0x00070f0f)
After a three or four more tries and a couple more of the same error message I got XP loaded. The problem now is that my CD drives keep acting strangely. If I connect one it will show up in device manager but drivers won’t not install correctly. If I connect two, one of them simply won’t show up. I tried three different CD drives, but still the same problem. Tried new IDE cables, switching back and forth between primary and secondary, different master/slave configurations, still the same. This with only video card, HD and CD drive connected. Tried connecting a second hard drive to see if I experienced any problems there, but it worked fine. Updated the bios, no improvement. Also, my floppy only works sporadically. Took out the board out checked it, cleaned it, still the same problems. I got the 9800PRO in, tried that just to see if the video card was the problem, no help there. I tried replacing my PSU, an Enermax 465W, with an older Antec 300W from a different machine. Not the same, I know, but should certainly be enough to power HD, CD drive, and 128 rage pro. Anyway, that didn’t seem to be the problem.
Anybody have any ideas what else to check or where to go next?

Sis controller requires a driver install via floppy and the f6 as you are installing xp or all hell will break loose. Did you load it ? If you dont have a floppy many of the mobo discs are bootable for that purpose

I loaded the driver when installing the OS using the SATA drives, but not when installing from the ATA drive. I'll give it a shot and see if it works.
Thanks.
