Pulled slot load drive compatability

Would slot load drives pulled from laptops have any issues working in a desktop configuration? I'm worried that the mobo won't recognize it and there will be no driver for it, or perhaps that it physically won't fit, or maybe the connector is different.

The reason I ask is that these pulled blu ray drives seem to be cheaper than others.

Well, the slim drives that people use for HTPCs and ITX rigs are generally ones you can put into laptops. In fact, to plug them into home PCs you need a SATA adapter cable. I don't imagine those two drives are different in that regard and most likely adhere to the same standard as the store-bought slim drives. The adapter cable isn't expensive either.

But damn, that's one cheap slot-load BD drive right there, even though it used. I paid 130 euros for a new tray-loading BD drive just a year ago here, and a slot loader would've been around 170-180 euros.
 
yeah, the CA10N's are pretty well used in HTPC builds (I switched to a CT21N for faster BD speeds and gave up the slot load). Just make sure you get that slimline SATA adapter, they're usually about $15 from places like frozencpu.com
 
I picked one up, its a blu-ray slot load dvd writer and alll that
SONY Blu-Ray Combo BD-ROM SATA Slot DVD Drive BC-5600S

I also picked up a bezel for it. However I didn't get a drive with an eject button. Not a big deal as I've mapped it to my keyboard but its rather unfortunate when I was trying to hackintosh it with multiple disks.

you'll need one of those aformentioned adaptors and you'll be on your way.
