Well, this being my first post here at |H|, let me introduce myself.....now that thats done with , lets get on with the show shall we. Even though Im pretty much a n00b at all this, I do have a general understanding of computers. Im looking to make a gaming rig that I will use until I gain enough experience to make my own (build my own case and mods). I allready have the Tt kandalf, and the Tt 680W PSU (which I know some will critisize). So here we go, with a $5000 budget, I need a processor, motherboard (with good OC abilities), graphic card (preferably Nvidia), a hard drive, and a liquid cooling system ( I'll go with 1/4" for my first mod). So please recommend away. I prefer going with the best of everything, but the only thing I will not shift is my liquid cooling system opinion; which is that I want a 1/4" Innovatek system because I really like the whole compression fittings deal.

I also am not willing to wait for anything to come out, I expect to finish it in 2 weeks :D

Thank you

Seems to me your sole purpose is to order the most expensive parts possible. I dont think you need help doing that...

$5000? You're not pulling our collective legs right? If you're not, I'll throw one together:

Asus SLI Premium - $165
X2 4400+ - $526
2GB Crucial Ballistix - $298
eVGA 7800GTX x 2 - $920
Maxtor 250GB HD x 2 - $208
NEC DVD burner - $40
Total: $2157

That's about as high-end as you're going to get ATM. I didn't go all-out on the processor because I figured you'd be doing some pretty major overclocking.

Throw a PC P&C 510 SLI into that, and that's my recommendation.

Oh, and if you're looking to WC, I'd take a look at Swiftech's H20-APEX kits. They perform extremely well.

No, Im not pulling your legs, I'll post it when Im done. The only things I see wrong are the motherboard (I hate asus), maxtor hard drives use IDE-sata converters (which suck), and the ram which I looked up had pretty high latencies. Also, don't the fx-serie processor score better for our current gaming environment?

[Edit]
Actually, Ill just be honest with you guys, I kinda know what I want to get, I just want you guys to tell me what you think: AMD64 4000+, DFI SLI-DR, dual evga 7800gtx in SLI, 3 sata hard drives in RAID 0+1, 2 gigs mushkin at 2-2-2-5, and an innovatek liquid cooling system ( the compression fittings make me feel safe for a first time user).
Thank you

Go dual core 4800+ or FX-57 if price is no option, you can still eek out some extra room from either if your cooling is good enough. Or, you could do dual Opteron 254s, basically FX-57s with the Opteron name.

You'd be better off waiting a month or so for ATI Crossfire boards to hit the market though, and doing X1800XTs if price is again no option. Yes, they are more expensive than 7800GTXs, but they perform just as well if not better on current game, have much higher image quality, and with driver updates and support for modern rendering features the 7800 doesn't have, will end up killing the 7800 series several months down the road.

I don't get the hating Asus part either, they make the best motherboards on the market bar-none.

If you want top of the line, go with the Athlon 64 FX 57. It's clock at 2.8GHz and has an unlocked multiplier so you can overclock it easily. You can't have an odd number of hard drives in a RAID 0+1 setup since you stripe 2+ drives (3 for example) and then mirror it onto another set of drives (3 other drives, total of 6).

get the new dual core dual processor powermac g5.. duh. and pay for all the ram upgrades at apple.

XBox 360.

JK!

1011.00 FX57
80.00 w/Scythe Shogun & Panaflo
189.00 DFI SLI-DR
307.00 2x 1 gig Crucial DDR500
950.00 2x 7800GTX
327.98 2x 74 gig Raptors in RAID 0
1494.00 4x 500 gig Baracudas in RAID 5
40.00 Lite-ON DL Burner
159.00 Seasonic 600W & sleeve it.
295.00 X-Fi Fatality

148.00 left over for a case and fans. I'm thinking Chenming.

I love it when people say "spend my money for me". :p
Anyway...
As you seem to be a 'money no object' kind of guy I say get an FX-57, then when multithreded games hit the market upgrade to whatever is top of the line dual core at the time.

Are you kidding me? Im sure the x2 4400 can OC to fx-57 speed without a doubt. Then you have TWO fx-57s for LESS money. TBH the fx-57 is pretty much obsolete at this point.

Looking at the OC chart in the AMD forum, people haven't been able to OC past 2.7 GHz.

Still though, you could have dual Opteron 254s for near the same price. Opteron's rule all, I'd sell my sould for a kick-ass dual opteron system (well, that and the ability to eat whatever the fuck I wanted and still stay hot).

Ok I hate when people argue this point since the fx-57 you wont leave at stock you will overclock it like crazy and then a 4400 wont touch a overclcoked 57 in terms of clock speed.

Thats close enough if you ask me. You wont notice the 100mhz difference. Not to mention it says they were only using air cooling.

Ok... Thats fantastic. But TWO fx-57s will last you for years, and more years. I rather have 2 fx-57s than your silly OCed one that will make no difference in the latest games. The day a game lags on a OCed fx-57 is the day most games will support dual core.

Sorry for not answering right away. Anyways, does the performance difference between the 4000+ and the fx-57 really worth $600 more? Having a $5000 budget down't quite mean I want to put everything into it, this is just to last me until I build a custom one from ground up. So Im not going to wait for the crossfire ATI, I will stick with the Slied 7800gtx. With the hard drives, I guess i'll raid-0 and use the 3rd for storage (since its 160gb). So once again, my question right now; is the fx-57 worth $600 more for the performance difference?

Thank you for your feedback by the way.

It really isnt... Single cores will become obsolete in gaming soon enough. Youll be sorry you didnt go for TWO fx-57s w/ the x2 4800 or 4400 opposed to some silly OCed fx-57 which is really not needed.

Wow...hum...really? I was hoping to play games like doom3 and unreal tournament 2004, do you think Ill see any decrease in any form of performance on these games? Im, willing to go dual core, but is it just an investment for future games or really worth the performance, 'cause this is just a gaming rig till I build a new one (which might take me a long time considering Ill be building the case). If dual core is that much better than FX, then Ill get it, if not Ill get the dual core for my next rig.

Theres only so much cpu power you need man... The latest games are becoming GPU dependant. Sure, no game out there today will lag on an fx-57, but no game will lag on an x2 3800 either... GPU is becoming the dominant issue now, and since youre going SLI'ed 7800s you already got the best of that. You cant get any faster than the x2 4400 game wise if you ask me, because no games require it yet. Any more power is just a waste of money, because it wont make any noticeable difference in games when it doesnt lag anyways.

I feel like an idiot here, im sure someome can back me up on this. :p

Nha, I believe you, I don't doubt the power of dual core. The only thing that really scares me is the low voltages, its that I've been using intel until now, and Im used to like the p4 3.6, its a pretty high voltage so Im just still attributing voltage to performance. This is my last post for a couple of days since Im in florida and about to get run over by hurricane wilma. Thanks for the help guys.

Attributing high voltage to high performance is such a huge misconception. AMD A64 processors are more efficient than the intel processors, which means they can do more work in less clock cycles (IE; less voltage and MHz needed). This means a lot less heat output, too! Ditch the FX57 and go with an X2 4400+ or 4800+ = my vote. :D

Check out the EPoX EP-9NPA+ SLI board. Chocked full of goodies and one hell of a stable oc'er. Priced right under $140 at the egg.

Sheesh, I just got my power back from the outage 'cause of wilma. Anyways. Are you guys sure the 4400+ will perform that much better than the 4000+, Any benchmark you guys can link me? Doom3, UT2k4, and the upcoming ut2K7 is what I'll be playing.
