I have some games for PSX in .tar format. What is that? Is it for an emulator, or is it used by a piece of hardware like a modded system?
 
Go out and buy the game, you obviously downloaded it...playstation emulators require you to have the original cd in the drive for them to function.
 
A .tar is just a compressed folder...and stop stealing Playstation games you cheap bastard.
 
While I'll admit that this is a gray area, I have played my own PS1 games (Metal Gear Solid, actually) on an emulator on my PC. Trust me--it's not worth it.
 
Only feature that I liked was the ability to save games anywhere at any moment, but otherwise I play all my old games on my ps2.

Not worth it? I don't think you've run a modern emulator. These days ePSXe runs most games better than the actual hardware. Metal Gear Solid is definately better.
 
I agree. I play my ORIGINAL PS1 games on my computer and I love it a lot better than playing on my PS2.

You can tweak the settings so that the graphics will resemble that of PS2. You can actually see what character faces are suppose to look like instead of just lego blocks.

ePSXe is the way to go IMO. Tweaking the settings just right for your machine will prolly be the hardest thing out of it all, but well worth it.

Can't complain about the built in Gameshark either, or that save state that was mentioned above. Just imagine using your Hard Drive space to store games.
 
Eh...MGS on ePSXe has some bugs. For instance, you're vision underwater is almost completely blacked out (bug), and I can't see backlights, ie the light behind an elevator button or the glowing numbers of the radio.

I tried a few different graphics drivers too, and the same thing happened.


I do admit Metal Gear Solid looks a lot nicer on my PC than it did on my friends PSX
