PSUs compatible with H8DCE board

Hi, thanks for reading.

This is a try to make a list of PSUs compatible with the SuperMicro H8DCE board

Since not every EPS12V Power Supply (even the good ones) is compatible with the SuperMicro H8DCE, I will appreciate a Lot that people having this board tell us what Brand and Model of Power Supply is using, to make a List of PSUs that can be used.

We look for Stability, Reliability and Durability

Please Post:

- Your system's Full Specs (to know the total hardware load of the system)
- How long the system has been working without any issue
- if it had any problems, please describe it with detail

That board shouldn't require anything extraordinary. Single 4 pin and a single 8 pin connector are required on the board, so most decent power supplies support that (no multiple 8 pin + 4 pin or the likes needed fortunately). Any of the higher wattage Corsair, PC Power & Cooling, Silverstone, etc power supplies should fit the bill. I personally have used both PC P&C and Silverstone on my dual processor builds with no problems.

What other hardware do you plan on running?

• Multiple video cards for a workstation?
• Dozens of drives for a server?
• Would you maybe like redundant power supplies in a server environment?
• Something else not covered here?

The Problem I have is this:

The system does Not boot up with a SilverStone Strider ST75F (wich works fine in a Tyan S2895 full loaded system) -it shutdown after 3 seconds aprox.- BUT Does boot up properly with a ST60F.

Both Silverstone Striders PSUs work fine with other systems. The test with the H8DCE was made with the minimal hardware required to find the cause of not booting up. All the hardware work fine too.

SuperMicro Tech support told that a 3A+ is needed in the +5VStandby when boot up (although the ST60F only gives 2A..)

I have to import the PSU to my country and pay extremely high customs duties (I will pay USD 400 in total for a power supply that cost USD 150 in the U.S., and so on...) I can not test it before buying, nor return nor replace it...

- So I REALLY need to know an accurate List of Power Supplies that people has used with the SuperMicro H8DCE without any problems for a long time, to be sure that the one I will buy will work without issues with the H8DCE (I couldn't buy another one...)

The Full system (graphics workstation) will be:
SuperMicro H8DCE motherboard
2 Opteron 290
6 DDR400 Ram modules
1 nVidia Quadro FX 4500 (maybe another one in the future)
4 SATA hard drives
2 DVD drives
POWER SUPPLY............ ?

Weird. The only difference between the ST75F and ST60F is that the ST75 has more amps on the 12v rails. I've used both my with Tyan Thunder i7501 Pro. Unfortunately I doubt you will find too many people with that very motherboard on this forum. I would try contacting Supermicro for a QVL and some of the power supply manufacturers I listed and see what they say. Since you don't have the luxury of being able to return stuff, there isn't much else you can do unless you manage to find someone with the same motherboard. Just curious, what country are you from?...sounds like it might be cheaper to have someone mail you one marked as a gift. Also, you might have better luck at 2CPU since I bet a lot of people over there have used that board: http://forums.2cpu.com/index.php

I contacted SuperMicro but they don't have a compatibility list because they offer complete server solutions, chassis including PSUs, they said.

The recommended SuperMicro's PSU for that board has 4A in the +5Vstandby .
The sad thing is that PSU (PWS-0060) is 645W but with no SATA connectors and no PCI-E connectors

I also contacted SilverStone but didn't get answer yet, let's see if they can provide more info.

Anyway what happen with my ST75F and ST60F is weird, yes.. I don't understand.

I think Slartibartfast had that board and used the Zippy PSL-6850P.

After researching and comparing, I realized the best and most reliable solution is to use the recommended Power Supply for this specific model by SuperMicro: PWS-0060
also listed: SP645-PS 645W Low-Noise Power Supply

I don't have the board anymore, but Paul is right, I did run it off of that for quite some time. Also used a PCPnC Silencer 750 which was just as loud.
