just wondering, besides Antec PSU's, are the Mad Dog and Compusa brand psu's any good, im talking about their 500 watter's, around 80-100 bucks

I had a CompUSA supply once, well before I saw the light. I do believe it managed to kill a stick of crucial ram. (good thing for lifetime warranties).

I would stick with a name brand. If you check newegg, id bet they are a lot cheaper than CUSA too for the same PSU.

yea.. once I told a customer that they needed a new power supply, and to go ask comp usa for a 250watt .. and she came back with an AT 250watt (not atx..) just when you think they can't screw it up....

i blew out a CUSA power supply within the first 3 weeks of having one...absolute trash and their warranty sucks.

cheers,

dave

I had a Compusa Starlogic 400w. It was okay, but the voltages were below spec. You'd be better off with the Antec or something even better than that.

I picked up an Ultra XConnect 500W today for $99. Thats around $10-20 cheaper than have seen it online. Most reviews are good. Had some trouble w/ and Antec 550w and this ones ok so far. Wiring is great.

You were looking at the UV ones then. Most of the regular X-Connects(blue, black, silver) are 99.99

I would buy an Antec, AT MINIMUM. CUSA PSU's are shit; they sell hundreds, and maybe 15% come back- almost immediatly that is- and they don't care. Look for SParkle for an excellent, rock solid PSU for not too much money; a Fortron (whose guts the Sparkle's have) is a little better. You can certainly spend as much as you want on a PSU though....

CompUSA brand PSUs come from many manufacturers. The brand may be listed as FMI, but that's just a distributor, and FMI's distributor, 4-star, which told me that the supplier changed about every week but was Win-tact when I called (very good -- PC Power & Cooling uses them for some PSUs), although I've seen others that were definitely Leadmans (Powmax, Robanton).
