I'm not sure exactly where this is ment to go because i'm not sure of the problem, BUT...

I recently moved from england to america and turned my PC on for the first time, when i did this it clearly wasn't making enough noise (compared to what i'm used to back in england) i'm assuming this is a problem with the voltages? my PSU doesnt have a little switch on the back to change the voltage either (that was my only suggestion, only thing i could think of being the different voltages. 110w / america being 240w? ), if anyone can correct me and give some advice / tell me im stupid :p or give me some other suggestions on what it is

as he is in america now i cant have a look at it myself so i'm stuck for suggestions

p.s: i'm writing this for a mate as he is not on the net yet in his appartment.

If the power supply is indeed 240V only then he will need a new power supply. Some power supplies will automatically detect the voltage and will actually run on a wide range of voltages, so perhaps this is the case. There's not a whole lot for us to go on here if we don't know the model of power supply or any other details. When you say it didn't make enough noise, was that the only problem? Did it still boot up or not?

Yes, he says it's boots up (not sure how far it gets..), but it would be a standard Packard Bell psu as he has changed nothign since buying it.. i will get some more info on how far it gets, if it boots then shut's down, so on then get back to you...
