My thermaltake purepower psu (420w)
model #W0009 makes a high ptich squeak noise when i attempt to turn on my computer. Since my computer will not turn on and I have done all I can think of, I assume that psu is now garabage.
I need to replace it but what should I get, I don't want another psu that is going to fail after 5 months.

The Antec True Powers are the best for the money. A 430w version would be more then enough for you.

what about enermax?

Enermax is good too. There are several trusted name brands you could go with. Antec is usually the top rated for the price range though. The next best would be a PC Power and Cooling and they are overly expensive and not really worth the price.

Antec, Enermax, Fortron, Sparkle, Thermaltake (manufactured by Enlight), PC Power and Cooling, TTGI, and Vantec are some of the good brands.

So which would be better?

Antec TruePower True430
or
Enermax EG435P-VHB SFMA Coolergiant 430W

The cheaper of the two..

so they're about the same in quality and performance?

off topic: KevC I noticed that your location said UT, what year are you in?

Well the Enermax is $86 on Newegg and the Antec 430 True is $67 over there too. So the Antec would be a steal at that price but I would get spend the cash and get the Enermax myself because I don't like a few things about the Antec PSUs (I'm poor and I have a Antec 300 True right now). Like I said thats just me, my grips with them are rather petty and if want to save the cash then go for it!

--EDIT--
For the price of the Enermax you could get an Antec 480 True.

Performance seems to be about the same. Two reviews for you:
