Im pretty positive my issue is in the PSU but I wanted another opinion before I bought one.

System is
AMD phenom x4 9750
4gb ddr2 800mhz
8800gts 320mb
250gb 7200rm
thermaltake 430w psu

everything was fine up until I went from my old 8600GT to the 8800gts about 2 weeks ago. The issue is I will be on the computer and then when im doing too much it locks up. monitored my temps for awhile to see if that was it, they were pretty normal. video card is at about 61C idle proccesors at about 38C idle

I'm willing to bet that's a TR2 430W. In that case, replace the PSU. The TR2 430W does not have enough amperage to support your system.

So definitely get a new PSU. Something like the Corsair 450VX should be enough
$65 - Corsair 450VX 450W PSU

haha you are correct :D im going to head out to frys in a bit and grab something with a little more meat on it. I figured id just get a psu that will last into my next build as this one is aging. What do you think of the thermaltake toughpower 700w?

The Toughpower 700W is a good PSU.

haha good good. I had the original thermaltake 420w which is the one that turned me on to thermaltake, but it didnt have the pci-e power connector on it so I took the psu from my gfs computer when i got the supposed broken 8800gts from my friend. it wasnt so I was happy. now I just need a new psu lol.

haha thats funny because after finding out that the toughpower was out of stock at the renton location I was going to ask about that one. 22A on the 12v1 and 12v2 right?

It has a total of 34A on the +12V rail so it will be enough for your system.
