now i could be wrong but i think my PSU may have be the cause of my problems. everytime i try to play a game (Prey, HL2, etc) my comp either freezes and the game closes on its own pretty much right away. this wasnt really an issue until i got my 7900GT -_- . my system also wont hold a stable OC at all so im running everything at stock (cpu, gpu, ram).

this system is pretty much brand new with the exception of the psu so all signs point to it correct?

fortunatly i will be ordering the Corsair HX620w next week, i just wantesd confirmation that its the psu and anything else.

here are the specs of my current psu: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16817153023

im newish here, but i can tell you just by looking at the manufacturer of your current psu, that that is probably the problem - thermaltake just dont make consistently good PSUs.

i am also purchasing a corsair 620W tomorrow too, looks like quite a good psu.

just hope itll let me run a single 8800GTX with my oc'd opteron.

from what i read about it its suposed to be a "best of the best" PSU so i cant wait till next friday.

Have you run Memtest86 on your machine? That's the other possibility I'd look into.

What temperatures is it getting? I'm pretty sure the psu is at fault, but it could be overheating also.

THe card you have draws from the 12v rail and the PSU only delivers 18A on a single 12v rail. That could be a problem.

what do u use to monitor psu temps, cpu and gpu temps r fine

I believe the Ultra is a better choice. I know that some Ultra's are good, while all Raidmax's are bad.

will the ultra good for my current rig? i dont need it to be future proof

Regardless of price, I personally would not put either of those PSUs into a nice system such as yours :( . I strongly suggest more reading and shopping.

i really dont have the money for the Corsair right now so what about one of these 2. if u guys confirm 1 of them is good for my current system (might be getting a second 7900GT) then ill be buying it 2morrow.

Raidmax Valcano 630w

Ultra X2 550w

You can afford 2-highend GPU's, but can't afford a good PSU?

Neither of those. The Ultra is better than the raidmax, but i'd still get something better.

the GT will be free (friend is giving it to me)

i ended up getting the Seasonic s12 650w so i guess i wont be getting the Corsair after all.

As a fellow enthusiast, I can honestly say I am glad you did not put a potential fire hazard in your box.

hahaha.. i forgot we have the s12 and s14 at my job (Frys) and i get a phatty discount on psu so i only payed $100 for it (same price as the Ultra x2)

i also got the Antec Nine Hundred case

As a general rule, Raidmax = crap.

Congrats on getting the Nine Hundred; how do you like it?

i saw my temps go down, my real reason for spending money was for the psu though so im glad i got that out of the way
