PSU Worries (Aging)

Hello,

Straightforward question (I hope), I'm using a Corsair VX450 and according to the wattage recommendation http://extreme.outervision.com/PSUEngine makes I'm using about 76% of my PSUs capacity at 100% TDP & 100% load -- and this is assuming it provides exactly 450W which seems unlikely. This is without taking capacitor aging into account.

30% capacitor aging takes it up to 99% @ 100% TDP & Load and 85% if I drop to 85% TDP & 90% Load.

Everything seems fine -- at the moment, but have I got a ticking time bomb on my hands?

FWIW I keep my system up 24/7 and intend to put the CPU & video card through their paces, though rarely at the same time.

If you start getting any lock-ups better change it out. Its pretty damn hard to get 100% usage unless you are torture testing though.

You need to post your whole system specs though. Most importantly your graphics card.

Phenom II 920, Radeon HD4830. Other than that it's fairly light. 2x2GB DDR2-800, 1 500GB SATA HDD, 1 DVD-RW. I do a lot of compiling so it's not hard to take the CPU up to 100%, like I said though, I won't be taking the CPU & video card to their limits at the same time. Maybe with some newer multithreaded games, I don't know.

No intention of crossfire or anything like that.

Your golden, no worries. The 4830 is an energy miser, lots of people are sticking them into 300 and 350 psu. Corsairs aren't the very BEST on the market, but they are solid. I wouldn't loose any sleep even with that system overclocked.
