PSU wattage question

Hey guys,

I want to be sure I've calculated everything right, so I'm asking you gurus.

I have an Antec Truepower Quattro 1200w PSU and at full load, my system is pulling about 1350w from the wall. I should be good to go with the current PSU, yes? Or am I overloading it slightly? I can pull one graphics card out of the system to lower the wall draw to 1100w, but I'd rather not if I'm good to go with 1350w from the wall.

Thanks!

I believe that power supply has ~80-85% efficiency. At 80% efficiency, your components are pulling 1080 watts. At 85% efficiency, they're pulling ~1150 watts. Which are both under 1200 watts. Yes, you are fine, and no, you are not overloading it.

It's suppose to be an 85% one. But either way, good to hear, I'll leave it be then. Am I shorting it's life running it at the edge like that, since it's loaded 24/7 at that wattage? If so, how much is it being shortened?

It's 80Plus Silver-rated, meaning it has a minimum efficiency of 85% at 20% load and higher. 1350W from the wall is fine at full load. The PSU is designed to run like that. Its lifespan will not decrease.

No such thing as perfect transducers. You will always have a drop when converting energy.
