i know you must get this question alot

ivy bridge i5 "k" - will oc
gtx 680
asus p8z77 deluxe
2 or 4 ram sticks
1 ssd

the question is, i hear you should get double the amount you need because you psu runs best/more efficient around 40-60% capacity. Looking for power efficiency while everyday stuff. most will be idle, web browse, movie and occasion full on gaming.

is this theory right? should i get a corsair 850w or should i get less?

You don't need double and your system is not going to pull more than 425W. I'm running a 2600k and 680 on an ST45SF 450W, because I know it's not overrated and can handle my specs. You're going to get a handful of people coming in here telling you to get a 750-850W PSU, but I'd grab a solid 500-550W PSU if you want to play it safe. As for the Corsair 850, which one? Corsair has good and shitty power supplies in it's lineup ;)

i was thinking that modular one that everyone has. so is "runs best/more efficient around 40-60% capacity" true or false?

Oh it's true, but are you generally gaming on your PC over 50% of the time? If so, are you playing games that make your system run @ full load? I doubt it and the only way you'd want an 850W PSU so you were hitting 40-60% with your specs, would be if you planned to run Prime95/IBT and Furmark most of the time :)

If it were 2005, it would be true... but it's not 2005 and it's false, it's also extremely stupid.

What you listed there is a 350W system at full load.

and also a couple case fans:) lol thanks for the help
