OK, Had my current comp for a couple of years now, I've had the case + power supply for a bit longer than that. The case is an Antec Sonata, the PSU is the one that was included with the case, an Antec True 380S. In my system now I have(and have had for sometime) an AMD A64 2800+ on an MSI K8N-Neo Platinum, and a BFG 6800OC, sound card, one DVD-RW drive, one SATA HD, No lights or anything. I have a Cooler Master water cooling unit that sits in two of my 5.25 inch bays, but the power input to it is something that plugs into the power cored side of the PSU, and the the power cord into the adapter for that, so current runs thru it(as such, I don't think it has much of an effect).
Components I am moving to(note that I do plan to overclock my next system, the current one has been lightly overclocked using the automatic feature on the MSI board). Intel Core 2 Duo E4300, Gigabyte DS3 Rev. 1.3, 2 gigs of DDR2, a SAPPHIRE 100176L Radeon X1950PRO 256MB, same SATA HD, DVD-RW, Sound Blaster card, and Water cooling unit. Seems like the C2D is going to take a lot less to run than the Athlon 64 I have in now, but the vid card will likely suck more power. Are my assumptions on the power consumtion of my new components correct? Do I need a new PSU to run this setup and be stable? I believe my current PSU is a little over 3 years old.
If so, there are two PSU's I have been looking at:
SeaSonic M12 SS-500HM ATX12V / EPS12V 500W Power Supply
CORSAIR CMPSU-520HX ATX12V v2.2 and EPS12V 2.91 520W
Thoughts/comments?
If I should buy a new PSU I would like to go with a modular one simply to keep my cabling clean and allow for maximum airflow. I want something good quality(from what I've read in this forum both these are quite good), but if I can get good quality for a lesser price and still get a modular PSU I would prefer to do so.
Any input would be appreciated.
