PSU upgrade

Dear Hardforum Community,

This goes back to another post about my friends HP Pavilion 523N. The power supply in his box is extremely small, it is ATX however. The dimensions for his current PSU are 150mm (W) x 86mm (H) x 100mm (D or L). I have looked on many sites, at many different brands and can not seem to find a power supply that meets these dimensions or the required wattage. He needs to upgrade desperately from his 200 Watt piece to something a little more substantial say 350 or 400 Watts.

If you guys can give me some idea on a power supply unit that we might be able to use it would be greatly appreciated. I would also like to make it clear that he CANNOT exceed these dimensions by much, maybe 10 mm as his case is very cramped.

I know this will sound dumb, but im an IT tech and we always start dumb ;)
On alot of the HPs they have a bracket that is removable by taking 4 screws out of the back.
This bracket is kind of an adapter for the smaller psu. If you take that out, it will take a normal size atx supply. Check that first, i've fixed a ton of hps that wouldnt take a fullsize psu at first glance.

Well you see the problem isn't the height or the width. It is the depth(back to front of case), which has nothing to do with a bracket in the case. He doesn't have a bracket that restricts anything other than height and width, which really isn't a restriction since the height and the width of any atx power supply is appropriate.

Sounds like you may need a Micro ATX power supply, which means pricey.

I have tried an M-ATX power supply, the problem with that is the height measurement is way off. By that I mean it's way too small. The problem with the power supply he has in there is that it seems like the width and height belong to an ATX psu, while the depth belongs to an M-ATX power supply.

Which surely means its an HP special :( You'll prolly have to call them and they'll charge you 70 bucks for an underpowered supply. I talked to the whipping boy at work, who we give all these machines, and he said he had to tell people twice he would need a part specifically from HP. I don't know for sure if your in that situaiton, but hes pretty concise, and couldnt find anything online.

Thank you very much for all your hard work hardorums community. I really appreicate it. I will tell my lazy buddy to get off his ass and to email the HP guys.
