I am currently in the process of doing a refresh of my computer. Going with a i5 setup, so new mobo, ram and cpu. Hanging on to my HD4890 until the 5850's come down more in price at which point I plan on running them (or comparable at the time cards) in corssfire. Currently have a CoolerMaster Real Power Pro 650W flawlessly powering my system, however it only has 2 6 pin PCI-E connectors.

System Setup to be:
i5-750 (??ghz), BIOSTAR T5 XE CFX-SLI, 4GB Gskill, Gigabyte HD 4890, 2x1TB Samsung Spinpoint F3, CoolerMaster RPP 650W, Samsung 245BW

Now during this refresh I am pushing my current mobo, processor and ram to my son's computer. He is running a 5 year old OCZ Powerstream 520W, which was great 5 years ago but is a bit old and has been running pretty much 24/7 for those 5 years.

System setup will be:
e8400 (4.0ghz), MSI P35 Neo2-FR, 4GB Gskill, 320GB WD, 1TB Hitachi, HIS HD4850, OCZ Powerstream 520W, Dell 2005FPW

So my question is that since I am having both computers apart now, should I add the extra expense to replace the aging OCZ and move my CM 650w to my son's computer and upgrade myself to something now that will support at least 5850's in crossfire with ample wattage.

If I do upgrade, what would be my best choice? I hate poor quality, but I also do not want to overspend for excessive power I do not need. Would something like a Seasonic S12E 650W or Corsair 650TX (both $79) be enough or should I spring for the Seasonic S12D 750W or Corsair 750TX, both at $99?

Yes and I would go with the Seasonic S12D 750w, especially at $99 bucks.

Looking around I noticed that the Silverstone Element 750W is $125 - $50 MIR over at ZipZoomFly, so $75 and $15 less for the ebillme option for a grand total of $60 if I deal with the Rebate. I know Silverstone used provide very solid Power supplies, but I am a bit out of the PSU loop, so not sure how they stack up now.

ANTEC TP-750 750W Blue TruePower can be had for $95 as well shipped and is half modular.

The Element series is kind of crappy. The Truepower New is much better, and $95 is still an excellent price for a very good 750W PSU. And it would definitely be a good idea to replace the Powerstream with your Real Power Pro 650W.

Leaning toward the Antec Truepower New 750w at the moment based on the reviews I have read.

I honestly do not think the Antec is better than the Seasonic, since it is actually made by Seasonic. If anything the performance is most likely very similar with the Seasonic getting the nod in power efficiency based on it's silver versus bronze certification, but with the Antec I get less wiring to worry about with the 1/2 modular design and I save a couple $.

I agree that you should upgrade your PSU. They wear out over time as well and if youre rebuilding ya might as well do a thorough rebuild.

I would think that Antec would be perfectly fine. If Jonny Guru speaks highly of it, thats usually good enough for me.

I was always partial to PC Power myself. No real significant reason other than theyve been around forever and always get rave reviews and Ive had good luck with them.

I also really like Corsair. This 650 watt Corsair looks pretty good for $89 + $10 MIR.

You can't go wrong with either the Seasonic S12D 750W or the Antec TruePower New TP-750.
