I am currently in the process of doing a refresh of my computer. Going with a i5 setup, so new mobo, ram and cpu. Hanging on to my HD4890 until the 5850's come down more in price at which point I plan on running them (or comparable at the time cards) in corssfire. Currently have a CoolerMaster Real Power Pro 650W flawlessly powering my system, however it only has 2 6 pin PCI-E connectors.
System Setup to be:
i5-750 (??ghz), BIOSTAR T5 XE CFX-SLI, 4GB Gskill, Gigabyte HD 4890, 2x1TB Samsung Spinpoint F3, CoolerMaster RPP 650W, Samsung 245BW
Now during this refresh I am pushing my current mobo, processor and ram to my son's computer. He is running a 5 year old OCZ Powerstream 520W, which was great 5 years ago but is a bit old and has been running pretty much 24/7 for those 5 years.
System setup will be:
e8400 (4.0ghz), MSI P35 Neo2-FR, 4GB Gskill, 320GB WD, 1TB Hitachi, HIS HD4850, OCZ Powerstream 520W, Dell 2005FPW
So my question is that since I am having both computers apart now, should I add the extra expense to replace the aging OCZ and move my CM 650w to my son's computer and upgrade myself to something now that will support at least 5850's in crossfire with ample wattage.
If I do upgrade, what would be my best choice? I hate poor quality, but I also do not want to overspend for excessive power I do not need. Would something like a Seasonic S12E 650W or Corsair 650TX (both $79) be enough or should I spring for the Seasonic S12D 750W or Corsair 750TX, both at $99?
