Hello,

Really simple and probably noobish question - bear with me. I'm upgrading to a SLI 8800GTS and my current Enermax 500w isn't cutting it. I'm almost positive I want a Ultra X3 1000w. I like that it's a modular PSU and that it's a single rail psu ( vs, my old 2 rail Enermax. )

I've read the reviews and people seem to like it, but I want to be safe and ask if there is another PSU in the same price range ( 240$ ) that is known to perform better? What would you recommend?
 
Not directly related to your question, but I think you can get away with something with less wattage...which would also halve your current price range.

That is unless you had some big upgrade plans in mind.
 
Going with a 1000w supply is mostly overreaction to my current psu sucking and a healthy dose of paranoia. I can afford to spend an extra 50$ over a 800w psu. Am really hoping to get a recommendation for a 1000w psu or confirmation that the Ultra X3 is a good choice.
 
what do you mean it isnt cutting it? it should be enough for 2 cards with no problems
 
I mean that I have an Enermax Liberty 500w and that with two 8800gts an e6850, 680i motherboard, watercooling, raptor, and other odds and ends it's running hot enough to fry an egg on. Well past 50c, probably past 60. Voltages are very unstable. My cpu voltage fluctuates +- .03v.

Imo that's not cutting it.
 
Well, I was going to suggest Corsair's 620w power supply...but if you want too much power, then the Ultra isn't too bad. Nothing that flashes "do not buy this".

Though as a note, the vcore fluctuations...I'm fairly certain you're just referring to vdroop.
