My new Antec TruePower 430 has SATA power connectors. Im trying to sleeve this damn thing, and dont want to remove them permanently. But, how the holy heck do I remove these connectors?!

Are the sata connectors on their own wire or are they connected on the same line as normal molex connectors?

If yes then surely disconnect the cables from the molex and get the sleeving on that way.

PSU------MOLEX-------MOLEX--------SATA
-----------------------------------------^^put your sleeving on here.

Or is it like this

PSU------------------------SATA?

David

PSU------MOLEX--------SATA........ <thats the way it goes.

My problem is I have no way to get the sleeving over the sata connector, and it's on the end. The only way I see to do it would be cut the sata connector then solder.

I think what he's suggesting is taking the wires out of the molex connector, sleeving it from that end and then putting them back in. That way, you never have to disconnect the SATA plug.

Heh so can anyone tell this is my first time sleeving  . So what your telling me is, once I remove the molex connector I can "break" the wiring without cutting? If so thats great :D !

Well you could buy 90 degree sata power connectors instead and just cut off that sata connector.

David

P.S. Remember which wires go where, its not the same order as your nomal molex connector.

if you can't or don't want to remove the sata header, there are two decent options i can think of off hand:

1. buy a set of female molex pins and a crimper, remove the molex connector, and cut the pins off. you should now have a separated sata connector with the wires coming out of it. sleeve this part as well as the rest of that chain, then crimp the new pins on the wires and put the molex connector back on.

2. cut the sleeving down the side and wrap it around the wires. if you have the right sleeving and a short enough length between the two connectors, it won't look too bad.

i think what lj and robbins are saying won't work too well because you'll end up wrapping the sata connector wires together with a legth of the wires between the molex and psu:

mo-_______-----------------psu
lex -------------sata

this way the sata connector is sleeved to the wires from the psu to the molex connector so you'll have a fun time trying to plug it in to a drive. that's about the best i can do with a minute of ascii work :)

good luck seadonkey
