hey guys I am helping a buddy spec out a new gaming/3d rendering system.

AMD quad core 4 x 2gb ram 1 hd and a radeon 5870 gpu. i wanted to go with this antec 650 psu

would it be enough?

Antec is an excellent brand. Id have no problem using one. 650 watts would be enough for that setup.

For my money though, Id throw in another $20 and get the TruePower 650 model. A little more solid build quality.

On a side note, Id suggest going with 4 GB or RAM. Unless youre using linux or Windows XP, youll need the extra 2 GB.
 
Actually, the EA650 is pretty good, but there are better values.

Go with the Antec Neo ECO 620W instead. Without the rebate, it costs only $5 more than the EA650W and offers 48A on the +12V rails (versus 45A for the EA650).

If your friend really likes that case, it's a decent enough deal.

However you can get a better and roomier case as well as the better quality Antec Neo Eco for roughly the same price:
$255 - AMD Phenom II X6 1055T CPU + Antec NEO ECO 620C 620W PSU
$70 - Cooler Master RC-690-KKN1-GP ATX Case
---
Total: $325 plus tax and shipping

Actually $5 cheaper but you get a better quality case and PSU.

That Antec 900 case is overpriced even with the combo discount, especially since that case is cramped on the inside. The internal 3.5" drive bays block access to any SATA ports, particularly those mounted on the front edge of the motherboard. And that case cannot accomodate long graphics cards such as the 5870 without (literally) getting the PCI-e connector bent beyond repair.

This. The EA650 (Delta) is a pretty good PSU, but you'd be better off either spending a little more for TruePower New 650 (SeaSonic M12D) Gym Rat suggested or if you don't mind the blue led fan, I'd grab the TruePower New TP-750 (Also SeaSonic M12D). Do you need 750W? No, but it's only $84.99 + FS AR with code "tp1505" until tomorrow.
