Hi guys, I'm putting together an I7 rig and need help with a power supply. This will also be my first try at OC'ing and I will be running SLI (maybe in the future 3way if I loose any more marbles)

I7 920
ASUS P6T6 WS Revolution
CORSAIR DOMINATOR 6GB (3 x 2GB)
EVGA 01G-P3-1280-AR GeForce GTX 280 (X2)
160g SATA HD (X2) Raid 0
1TB SATA HD
Cd/Dvd combo drive
Dual TV tuner
Swiftech H20-220 Apex Ultima

I think thats it? A friend of mine told me that I wouldn't need anything over 650w, but I kind of remain skeptical. I was using this power supply calculator and came up with 1206w. Need some help please

If you're doing SLI I would say 650 would be the bare minimum, but would work fine with a quality PSU. A 750-800 would handle dual video cards fine though, with a bit of headroom.

If you plan on doing triple-SLI I would recommend the Thermaltake Toughpower 1200W. There is a review here on [H] about how amazing it is.

I saw that review, agreed it is an amazing power supply. I had originally planned on that power supply, but my friend thought that I was freakin crazy. He told me to Kilo-watt test the computer, and find out how many watts I was using at full load. Thats kinda hard when you don't have a hefty psu to do that with. That Thermaltake is kick azz though, the downside is that it's $399  I was also thinking of the Corsair 1000w psu, but will that be enough for 3way sli and any add-ons in the future?

You should be fine with Corsair's Hx-1000 for triple SLI. Corsair is still up there for PSU's, I'm using the TX-750 myself.

i have virtually the same setup now.

i7-920
3gb GSkil RAM
DVD rw
ASUS P6T Deluxe
Dual 280's
Antec 1200
300GB S ATA
Coolermaster V8

I run the corsair 1000hx....smooth as butter an no hiccups. Plenty of hookups, modular and flat cables to boot...its really nice.
