PSU Questions

A while back, I ordered a case for my new build that had a PSU built in. Everything seems to run fine. The case is an Aspire and I'm not sure what brand PSU is in it but I know it's a generic 450w.

What I would like to know is:

1. What kind of benefits would I get from buying a name brand (thinking of OCZ) PSU?

2. The PSU i'm looking at in particular is the OCZ Modstream 450w

Does this PSU look good? It has great reviews. I am also wondering does anyone know if it has a 20pin or 24pin mobo connector?

Better stability, better load regulation, and maybe more features.

It is an ATX12v1.3 PSU with a hybrid connector. 4 pins slide on to the side of the 20pin so you can do either.


Now what exactly will you be running, and what features do you want?

I mainly just play games (mostly World of Warcraft), surfing the net, chatting. I also occasionally do web development work and audio editing. For features - I'm not sure what kind of features a PSU could possibly have other than to supply power to my hardware

Well that 20+4 deign will work just about as well. An ATX12v2.0 PSU might be a better bet for keeping you up to date longer.

Sorry I meant what hardware will you be running. Features: Quiet, looks, modular cables, efficency etc.

Hardware is all in my sig

Features - I don't really care about any of those But I do like the cables on this PSU how you can unplug/plug them to the PSU and how they're wrapped up to keep cables neat

In addition to the hardware in my sig I also have a DVD drive, a DVD RW +/- and a floppy drive

In that case the Modstream would do fine if that is what you really want. However, if you want an ATX12v2.0 modular (cables that connect and disconnect) for the future there is also the NEopower which would fit you as well.
