Could my PSU affect my OCing at all? I know I need a bigger PSU. Right now I'm using a 350watt.

My system..

AMD 64bit 3500+
Abit AV8 Pro Motherboard
Kingston HyperX PC3200 RAM
eVGA 6800 Ultra
4 80MM fans and 120mm fan
Lite on DVD burner
Floppy

What do you guys think?
 
It very well could be. Its not just the watts but also the amps. A64 systems like more amps and so does Ocing. If you can afford it I would go atleast 500w and something with atleast 30+ amps on the 12v.MAke sure its a good name brand. That will mean alot. Brands like Pc Pwr and cooling or Antec or OCZ. Someone that makes a really good psu. One other thing is you also have a 6800 ultra. Once again something that needs a fair amount of watts & amps. But some question I have is are you having troubles ocing and what is it. Give us some more info on the system. bios revison? what do you have for PSU now? and where are you at with the ocing and what do you expect or want to oc it to?

I'm using uGuru to OC. I've also tried using my BIOS. Its set at Ext\AGP\PCI 204/66/33 Mhz
and If I take it to 205 it locks up. I've played with Voltage and it doesn't seem to help. Timing on my

memory is timings 2.3.3.7.

The PSU is a no-name 350watt PSU.

I was thinking about getting this to replace my current psu.

did you read the last Max Pc mag. I belive that the enermax was one that they reviewed and tested (along with about 9 or 10 others) and it didnt fair so well.In fact if I remeber right It was pretty poor. Cant remeber for sure have to look at the artical when I get home tonight.

Ok.when you move the FSB up what do you have you cpu multiplyer at? whats theCpu voltage at? and what about your HTT multiplyer? If you Increase the FSB you must decrease the HTT multi to keep it under 1000. so if you go up to 205 fsb and the htt multi is at 5x then you are over 1000 (205 x5=1025) so back it down until you get under 1000. Also make sure you AGP pci locks are working(what version is the Mobo)
 
Yeah, well, Im sure there are a few people out there who dont agree with everything maxpc puts out. Look at that Antec Stealth 520...ouch. Do you really think that the problem was due to the PSU, or more due to their supposedly faulty wiring? What would the results be if they had wiring like the regular home? At that, there are a few reviews out there where the antec NeoPower doesnt do so well on the power tests...so who do ya trust? Maybe some of the better power supplies in that PSU roundup were comprimised by their facility's wiring...and the Neo just came out on top...who knows. FWIW, the NeoPower comes in a 'kryptonite' version that looks sick...might be worth a shot. I have had a few antecs in the past...never a problem (trueblue480, truecontrol550, smartpower400).
 
my enermax is overloaded by about 5 amps on 12v rail.. still solid at 11.80v and it reads 12.40 if i measure it with multimeter

Multiplier is set at 11x

Voltage is something I've changed a lot....but its currently set at 1.5

How do I make sure the AGP pci locks are working? This is the first time I've really looked into OCing.
 
There's an HTT setting that should have 1-5x as the settings...drop it down to 4x and you might be able to go past 5.
 
The HTT multi on the Abit AV8 might be called the LDT bus. But its the same thing and as you increase FSB you will need to lower the LDT/HTT multi to keep it below 1000. SO if you are @ 225 fsb @11x cpu multi = 2475 mhz. But the LDT/HTT multi is @ 5x the LDT/HTT total would be 1125 (225 fsb x 5 LDT/HTT =1125) and it wont do that. So you must lower the number to 4x and then you would have 900 LDT/HTT speed. This will also tell you if the PCI/AGP locks are working as well. I would leave the voltage @1.5 and make sure mem voltage is @ 2.65 to 2.75 range. you can then lower the CPU multiplier and increase the FSB but remeber to keep the LDT/HTT multi at where it should be so that when you increase the FSB the LDT/HTT is always at a total amout of 1000 or lower.You will also need to loosen your mem timings as you increase. Like my memory @ ddr400 setting will do 2-2-2-5 timings @ 1t @ 2.65v and @ ddr550 settings i have it @2.5-3-3-7 @ 2.75 v. Also its bet to run a 1T setting on memory as the 2T setting delivers a pretty hefty performance drop. Good luck! and holla if ya have more questions!!
