with all this talk about the nv40 needing a 480+ watt psu, i was wondering... well, im building a new rig soon, with an antec 430, and ill be useing a 9800 np or p(not shure yet). but i might eventually upgrade to a 6800 or next gen radeon when the update(ie the 9800 xt or 5950) comes out and prices drop(like geting a 9800 pro now). so should i go with a true 480? ill be running an a4 2800+ with 3 hdds and 2 optical drives and 1-2(not shure yet) sticks of ram.
 
it is still all speculation, so we really don't know for sure yet. Plus, I doubt it will need such a powerful power supply.

I guess you just have to hold off a week and wait for the reviews to pop up.
 
I seriously doubt it will need that much power. Rig #1 in my sig with a 9800Pro uses around 175 watts all together. If the next gen cards suck over 200 watts then a 480 watt power supply may be needed, but I dont see that happening :)

How you find out the power usage?
 
I don't believe that power draw reference. Even the new Prescott processors from Intel don't draw more than ~120 W.
