Hey guys,

i'm not really super tech oriented so sorry if i sound kinda dumb here. I was wondering a few things

1) if a psu is multi 4 rails, 100w total, each rail can only push Xw amount right its not just broken up? The one i got has 2 20a and 2 30a rails.

b) kind of not PSU related at all but since i'm here, anyone know what an average 2gb 6950 power consumption is? I've seen reviews say just under 200w under load and users tell me teh same, and others say 300w under load.

I just picked up a 1000w rosewill 4 rail psu to power 2 6950s and a 280x, mobo/gpu and 1 540 drive but now I am very very concerned I made a big mistake and have to return it (bleh restocking). I thought the 6950s were 200 each, but even at 30a would 1 rail push the 280x?

A 30A rail is good for 360W @ 12v, which is more than enough for *almost* any current GPU.
 
Awesome, thank you for that info. I wasn't sure on that. So a 20 would be good for 240? that seems low to have as a dedicated pcie 2x6pin plug on?

Now I just need to find out what a 6950 pulls watt wise, ive sen reports of 200 at load and others at 200 at load ;/ Basically I want be sure if the 1000w would be enough or not
 
20Amp are exactly those 240w... 20A*12v = 240w. so I would not try to load those fully 20A from a single Rail.. anyway you will be find powering each 6950 with a dedicated 20A Rail. because the 6950 at least at stock speeds will draw at most during a furmark or any other GPU burner like 190-200W.

Will it be correct to say that such a psu will not run a single 7990 or 690 overclocked?
These gpus pull more than 360 watts.

From another perspective, if one says 360w is enough for those gpus, then with a normal set up a 600W gpu should be plenty (which is not true)
 
that PSU for sure can handle any card like that.. you only have to be sure for example have 2 30A Rails.. each 30A are 360W.. if you will run a single 7990 that can draw even 470W at stock speeds. what can you do?. mix Rails.. you can use a PCI-E 6/8Pin cable from a 30A Rail and then the other PCI-E 6/8Pin cable from the other Rail.. generally speaking those PSU have separated and market Cables from the different Rails, one can use weaker 20A Rails for system and stronger 30A Rails for GPUs.. all depend on the needs.
