sorry for making another thread on whats best...but im in a pinch and i need to know rather quick

anyone that saw my other thread knows i had PSU issues, and well my OCZ PSU finally kicked the bucket(wont power on my Phenom II X2 system, but it will power on my Athlon X2 system.....and yes i used my dads Zaleman 750W to make sure it is a PSU issue on my Phenom II system)......

of these, which will be the best bang for my buck, and last me a good long time.....i want to spend as little as i need to, but i dont want to buy crap......any help/suggestions are much appriciated(sig in rig....add a Thuban[as a max] and 1-2 5870's and a few drives and you have my final setup.....overclocking head room is a need[as i intened to continue overclocking])

my current list:

im not tied to getting any of these, if you know of another one that fints my needs better let me know........also, i do want to sleeve the power cables at a future time so if it wont break my warrenty it would be even better...but not a necessity......

thanks in advanced for any help

only problem with that one is, i need a modular one(im a neat freak for my PC, and my current PSU took me 4 hours to get the wires hidden where i couldnt see them....so not really wanting to do that again unless ive got to lol...).......thanks, ill have to see if i can find a better price on the 750....

anyone else got a suggestion ?

The Antec I suggested is partially modular. But if you really need a modular PSU, go with the Thermaltake.

Definitely the Thermaltake for best price to performance.

which thermaltake ???

also, i didnt notice that the Truepower was partially modular(i looked at a pic from the wrong angle)....which part of it is actually attached to the PSU permenatly?.....I will definatly be using: 1X 24Pin ATX, 1X 8pin for CPU, 3 SATA power(on two cables i have a laptop drive hidden behind my mobo), and two PCIe 6pins.......the pictures on newegg are not very revealing as to which connectors are permenatly attached....

the $70 is something i do love

thanks guys :)

ill take a look at the: Corsair, Thermaltake, and Antec, when my dad gets home(gotta get a bit of spare change to get it since my PC is DOA at the moment)...and yes, there are two thermaltakes :p maybe you got lucky and only looked at the toughpower ;)

well, im putting in an order at the Egg tommorrow for the Truepower....

thanks Zero and Danny

quick question, if i run an older computer(Athlon X2 5000+ BE, 4GB DDR2 800[4x1gb], 1 HDD[for now], 8400 GS, 2 120 mm fans) that i am peiceing together, will the OCZ powersupply harm the equipment if it is put as a server role ? Im looking at using those components for a file server/guest computer....guess overkill is my thing.

Assuming the OCZ still works reasonably well, it should be fine with that hardware. But if it's really faulty, you'd be better off replacing it with a cheap low-wattage unit like a 380W Earthwatts or something similar.

is there anyway for me to tell if its faulty w/o any specialty tools....it powered on the above system(with a 9800 GTX instead of an 8400 GS) w/o an issue, i didnt go into windows b/c i didnt have a spare HDD for that machine.....

If it powers up, it's probably good enough for what you need it for. More than that, you can't really tell without "specialty tools".

cool, ill be giving it a go tonight to get a desktop up and running, currently have to use my 3 year old dell as a desktop lol, it hasnt had this much uptime since before i bought my last computer(the one im about to put back together lol)

order has been placed, ill let you guys know in a few days how it works(im hoping this PSU will give me some nice overhead to overclock, and maybe unlock my cores)......

and gotta love newegg for its shipping.....2 day estimated for my free shipping(guess its finally coming from Tenesee....not New Jersey like usual)

The PSU shouldn't have any effect on overclocking, unless your old one is faulty and was holding you back.

i think that it was faulty is the thing....i'd been having weird things pp up every once and a while(odd shut downs that didnt occur regularly...maybe once or twice....and my Phenom II wasnt stable past 1.375 volts, though I did reach 3.8 GHz at that.....the Phenom II's are typically able to go to 1.55 w/o a problem....dont know if that is PSU issue or not, im not very technical power wise), figuring my PSU was somewhat faulty, so it had been next on my "to buy list", guess it came quicker than needed....

update: this PSU is awsome(the TruePower New 750), got it on monday....installed....no issues at all.....

thanks for the reconmendation zero/danny

ive got my CPU up to the speeds in sig(3.712, 1.325v...stock voltage) w/o an issue, before(on last PSU) i would BSOD at that, with that voltage, when doing 3DMark Vantage, and as of now I have not had any BSOD, running it at those settings since I installed the PSU......thanks again, as of now i will be using this PSU brand again lol....strangely even my mem. timings were helped...(need to fix it tho, my mobo undervolts my memory from what it should be at for 1600 speed)
