PSU Question

More than enough unless you want to put a sli setup in it.

yes, I'm just saying 2 of C2Q6600... I'm assuming I can save more money using half the amount of PSU I need for my farm plan. Now, anybody knows where I can get the PSU splitter cables and what not?
 
If your asking if that supply will power both Q6600 systems then yes.
BUT .............
You'll be right at the max loading, 70-90%, from that supply.
So for how long it will last is another story ......... :p

A barebones Q6600 system will pull 150-190 watts, I work at 1.5x-2x CPU draw.
Run the PSU at 50% for max efficency/life, 300-380 watts.
Thats why I got a 380 watt PSU for my new Q6600 system.
Once I get my Kill-a-Watt meter on it, I'll find out how close to correct I was.
Now doulbe that for two systems. 600-750 Watts.
Thats the power range you want to look at for the PSU.
I'd go for a good 600-700 watt one to be safe.

Thanks man and this begs the question, would it be more cost efficient to run a PSU for each C2Q or have a 600-700 watt PSU run per two C2Q?

That would probably depend on how expensive each PSU is. If you can get the 700w for less than double the price of the 400w then it seems like it would be worth it.

I'd wait if you could the 380's where on sale a week back and they probably will be on again soon. I'm grabbing another 2 when they do.

 
sorry, but I've just never seen or heard this. is this a dual socket motherboard that your powering or two separate systems with one power supply? how can that be?

At this point I guess you could see if you can find any info showing exactly how efficient each PSU will be given the exact load you would be putting on either one.

There are plastic devices on the market that will split the 24-pin Motherboard power cable into two cables. You then use one PSU to power two MB's. You would also need one of the 4-pin splitters as well.

For folding, this would work well because you could use one high quality high power PSU to power two folding boxen.
