PSU question

So I done ordered me one of these. Yes yes it's Thermaltake *stabs face* but for 25 bucks after rebate it can't be that bad since it's based on older channelwell tech from which the antec smartpower and truepowers were based off of. And it so happens that my current psu is an old Antec Smartpower 400. I mainly got the thermaltake to either a) replace current smartpower that also has 18a on the 12v rail, and give my little brother the Antec or to b) give TT to bro and keep Antec, since his comp has a cheap generic psu that came with the raidmax i got 1.5 years ago. I call it the "thing."

So what say ye fellow forum members, keep my current Smartpower or use the TT with the spiffy sleeved cables and quickrelease (correct?) molex connectors so I don't have to worry about damaging connector on 6800gt.

Currently have:

Athlon XP 2500+
2 HDDs
2 optical drives
6800gt
two 120mm fans (going to be 1 120mm and 2 92mm when I get the Antec Solo in)
Audigy 2

Yesh sig needs to be updated. Any comments would be appreciated. Gracias.

Are you sure about that TT........that doesn't look like a UL number of E161451 (CWT) in the picture to at Newegg to me

Not completely sure, I was basing that off a post about 5 months ago on the forums, I'll try and find it again.

Edit: This is the thread, specifically the 17th post.

Personally, I'd keep the smartpower. The psu is THE most important component in your system because it is the only one capable of blowing and taking components with it. I don't trust TT, especially not one that sells for that cheap.

True, but then again the Smartpower I bought over two years ago was only 50 bucks, and it's lasted me this long. I'm kinda curious if the TT will help get rid of the hot spot at the top of the case. Its fan configuration is different than the Antec so it may. If it does and it is fairly quiet than I may go ahead and use it. Iono.

I'd keep the smart power, just because it is a TT. As of the specs, both should power the system fine, and if your brothers system is anything like yours, the TT should power it fine too. And the TT is still more reliable then a Raidmax IMO.

I agree. I wonder if that's some new-old-stock or something. Perhaps built by Sirtech. I have three TR2 power supplies of different wattages and they're all 120MM fan and have CWT UL numbers.

That sort of looks like they relabeled the old Truepower 480W so it would fit in better with their current line-up.

I can't locate the TR2's I have right now because I'm fixin' to leave for Taiwan, but if all you need is 18A on the 12V rail, I don't have an issue with that PSU.

EDIT: I think the three I have that are CWT built are 470W, 500W and 550W. Don't quote me on that. ;)

Well after doing a bit more digging around and Googling (hooray for SVC having a clear picture of sticker) it seems the UL number belongs to HEC/Compucase (E199442). I've never heard of either of those companies so it kinda makes me go "hmmmmmmmm." Guess I'll dig around a bit more about HEC.

HEC used to be the OEM for Antec before their change over to CWT.

Ah ok. So it's good I guess. Didn't find too much info about HEC when I searched just under the UL #, other than a post here about 1 year ago about HEC built units. Although I did find this nifty page with a bunch of UL listings many PSU manufacturers.

Actually, if you go to the UL website and put in category "QQGQ2" you'll list every UL listed PSU manufacturer on Earth.

Ah, good to know. I tried looking up the UL # on their website but I couldn't quite figure out the correct search to use, so I just ended up using google. <3 Google.
