It seems that, there is an increase of private label and gimmick marketing in the PSU world, I still remember thinking of committing myself for buying a PCP&C PSU for nearly $300 when AGP was graphics were high end.

I have used / still using a Corsair (Runs Hot, Questionable future reliability), Sparkle (A newer model with PITA modular connections), another Sparkle (Died, the power to my house is very bad, took out my dual Opteron system with it). Nothing has come close to the original PCP&C ~450W I bought

Is PC Power and Cooling still one of the top of the lines since they were bought out? There seems to be a lot of bad reviews on Newegg. If you have any suggestions I dislike modular connectors because they end up everywhere and I'm looking around the Kilowatt range. Building a new AMD based system to replace the Thinkpad I'm using at home.

Well, since PCP&C got bought out by OCZ, the PSUs sold under the PCP&C brand are either re-badged Sirfa-made units (questionable quality) or are too expensive for their performance and quality.

And you will have to settle for modular (pretty much) if you want a PSU that's rated at 1000W or higher. The only non-modular PSU in the 1000W-and-up range that I know of is the still-in-production PC Power & Cooling Turbo-Cool 1200W. However, that PSU costs a whopping $400 to start - and then, it is anything but quiet (the fan is loud).
