PSU Problem????

Ok, last night I took a can a dust air to my computer to get out all of the dust....when I got done I hooked everything back up and started up my computer with no problems. I surfed the net for awhile, played a few games and then went to bed leaving my computer on for my wife.

Well, this morning I woke up to go to work and went to fire up my computer only to have nothing happen. I checked my powerstrip to ensure that my wife didn't bump it with her foot or something but it was still plugged in and on. I checked the back of my PSU to ensure the switch was on and it was. I checked my mobo LED to see if it was on to ensure my mobo was getting power and it was.

I then started to freak out and couldn't figure it out...I then unplugged my rig and tried clearing my CMOS to no avail. I then took out my SoundCard(only PCI card) and no luck. I then unplugged one of my HD's and nada. Then the AGP Vid Card got pulled and nada.

I would just simply push the power button on the front of my computer and nothing would happen at all as if it were unplugged altogether.

I then went begrudgingly to work stewing on the problem and explained it to one of my friends who also happens to be a fellow computer geek...er a [H]ard Geek;)

I told him everything that I had done and he said it seemed that it may be my PSU if nothing at all was turning on. But I explained to him that the LED on my ASUS A7N8X Dlx mobo was on.

So we got off work and ripped my rig apart piece by piece. I then took an old Epox 8K9A2 mobo I had lying around and set it on my dining room table and just hooked the PSU ATX power cable up to it and also the PowerSwitch cable from my case to it. Understand it was just the mobo itself and nothing installed on it. No CPU, no RAM, etc...the 420W Turbolink PSU sprung to life and was running just fine.

Now I was happy to see the PSU working again...but now my stomach sank as I looked to my ASUS A7N8X Dlx mobo to be the culprit. So I decided to strip my ASUS mobo down to do a mobo swap and decided to plug in the PSU one more time for s**ts and giggles to see what happened....GUESS WHAT???? The PSU kicked on like nothing had ever happened...now I was really pissed because I just got done ripping apart my entire computer for the PSU to finally just decide to start working?????

My friend busted out his volt-meter and we tested the voltages on the ATX PowerCable leading to the mobo which came out just fine and the voltages were good to go...

Well....I slapped my computer back together and boxed up the Epox mobo for maybe a rainy day. My computer is up and running now and I have no idea what caused this problem.

My friend and I still shift an uneasy eye to my PSU and think that it just may be flaky and works when it wants to and doesn't til it feels good and ready to work.

Does anyone else have any ideas of what the problem may be??

Would I be correct to assume that the problem still lies with my PSU??

I really want to be able to track down the source of this problem...is my PSU dying, even if the voltages are reading ok? could it be RAM? or something else?

Some guidance would really be appreciated!

Thx,

I've seen similar results with the ATX connector not locked into the motherboard all the way. It could be possible that it may not have been locked all this time, but close enough that it would work. After cleaning it may have moved just enough to make it stop.

Now another funny thing...

I come home from work today and my Blue CC Lights aren't working?? They were working last night when I put my computer together...and they were working this morning before I left for work...I get home from work and no lights? Everything else "seems" to be running ok...hrmm...

Anymore thoughts??
