OK I need some help on ideas on how to fix my PSU placement problem.

Case : Aspire X-Qpack
HSF : Akasa Evo120
Problem : HSF is taking space needed for the PSU. I need idea's on how to fix.

Pictures are here

Thanks

Sorry bud... there's only 2 fixes I can think of.

1. get a bigger case.

2. get a smaller heatsink.

Unless you're willing to mount the powersupply 50% outside the case, you're just not going to be able to get these two things to coexist in that case.

Hmm... just noticed something else... you've got the heatsink mounted so the heatpipes bend toward the slots. Any chance you can reverse it and have them bend away from the slots? (rotate the heatsink 180 degrees)

That might take care of your powersupply issue, but is bound to create some new ones.

Happy modding!

I did think about a 1U or 2U PSU.

something like this

The problem is that they are to wide also becuse the average about 8 inches long and the drive cage gets in the way. I have only 2.5 inches from the side of the drive cage to the right side of the case. The rear of my DVD burner is 6.75 inches from the rear of the case.

Yeah, but those psu's aren't likely to give you the power you'd need. That psu in the case is already pretty small, ya know?

You might consider getting a different cooler. I found one of these that should fit under the bars in that case, and give more than adequate cooling. Not sure if you're running a socket 754, or what that mobo is, since your heatsink can be used for so many different cpu's, but I'm sure Arctic Cooling has a solution similar to this for other sockets. :)

De-case the PSU?

Most people say it's crazy, but just take the PSU out of its casing, mount it on a piece of plexi, then mount the plexi on the top of your case. I've done it several times when space was at a premium... If you don't want to risk doing that, I would reccommend just getting a different heatsink; that one is HUGE
