I ordered a case from newegg the other week... it came with a free power supply (SWEET...sort of)

:| I didn't even consider this to be an issue...all i saw was that it was free so I didn't bother getting a better one

Turns out the mobo requires 2x4pin psu cords for the cpu, but the psu only has 1x4pin...

ANYWAY, do you think its safe to use the extra 6pin vga cord for the second 4pin cord? (eerh assuming they'll fit)

No. Not only are the voltages probably different, the PSU seems cheaply built and I wouldn't be surprised if it ended up killing your other hardware.

Just plug the 4pin into the 8 pin socket. It'll fit filling up have the socket. You only need all 8 if you are doing serious overclocking which you hopefully dont' plan to do on a freebie PSU.

Regardless it'll work fine for you.

People shouldn't be so quick to play sheep to the marketing machine. There are literally MILLIONS of devices out there whose reliable operation is many many times more critical then your precious gaming rig that are running on PSUs made in some factory in China bearing names you can't even pronounce much less have heard of. Even the vast majority of "brand name" PSUs are coming from these same factories and being relabled at a 6000% markup and spoon fed to you via your credit card.

Is a quality PSU a good investment. Of course it is. Does that mean you need to turn your nose up at a free one? Of course not.

What PSU is this? And no, you cannot use a 6-pin PCI-E connector for the other four pins. Like the above poster said, you can use the 4-pin in the 8-pin socket, but if it's a shitty PSU, I wouldn't suggest that you use it altogether.

Nothing overly bad about that PSU. The fact that you have a quad doesn't really mean anything.

Noisy fans are annoying though if that's the case which it often is with budget supplies.

That's a cheap FSP unit using an old design. A replacement would be a good idea, assuming you can find something that fits.
