ok that being said I'm looking at buying this http://www.tigerdirect.ca/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=2235422&Sku=O261-2004

Now it has dual rails which I'm assuming is the 8 pin connecter with two lines going into it. My mobo has one 4 pin connection do I need some sort of converter for that? (not sure if I've even got the right lines here but thats why I'm asking). If so do I still get the combined amps of the 2 rails or just one?(will I only get 20 amps or 40 amps?)

Is this even a good PSU?

I'm leery of OCZ PSU's, you might be better served with something a lil cheaper, thats too much for a PSU. Look at an enermax liberty, or an Antec NeoHE, they are both less money, and better quality which makes up for the loss of wattage (you'll note the 46A on the 5v rail, theres no point to having that, everything anymore that sucks power is 12V), and both are modular, and have Active PFC

Enermax
My reccomendation, has better 12V rails than the OCZ and is more than $30 cheaper

Antec NeoHE
3 Rails, more expensive, but still less than the OCZ

PS> stay away from tigerdirect, too high on shipping and lousy RMA's and really hard to get that "rebate"

Don't buy that. It's a powerstream, which, while good, is way overpriced. The 8-pin is an SSI connector, and it splits into two, of which one is a 4-pin. One rail.

Since you're in canada, buy http://www.ncix.com/products/index....XSSLI&manufacture=OCZ Technology&promoid=1056 instead.

So I only get one rail. I want the dual rails for a sli upgrade path. Currently my system has a 7800GT in it and I read that you need 26 amps for that. Does this mean I need to find a PSU where one of the 12v rails is atleast 26 amps?

The upgrade wont be for awhile so i have to stick with the one 4 pin connection. When i do upgrade to a DFI sli board I dont want to have to worry about power.

I'll tell you a little secret. The Ultra X-Finity 500W w/APFC splits the PCI-e connectors so that one is on 12V1 and one is on 12V2. This allows you to actually fully utilize the 12V2 rail which is normally only partially loaded by the CPU and nothing else while the 12V1 is taking up all the slack and powering everything else.

It's a good design and hopefully it'll catch on.

And it's so damn heavy you can keep it by the front door and swing it by the cables at unwanted intruders.

Damn, I forgot to mention that.

do I smell a lawsuit coming up?

"So, judge, I was breaking into JonnyGuru's house, and he swung the split-rail ultra x-finity 500w at me and broke my arm. I'm sueing him for x dollars."
"But judge, he was breaking into my house and he was going to kill me in my sleep and release killer mutant ninja piranna-bred rats."

"You are free to go. I hereby declare power supplies to now contain 50% less guts and have rounded corners."

Hurray for America.
