PSU/Memory Recommendation

Hi,

I'm looking for a new PSU, it needs to meet the following:

- 700W or Higher
- Modular (Fully modular even better)
- Cost up to $130-$150

PS: I just missed a good deal on a Seasonic X750 for $130


Second question:

Is there any benefit on buying the same set to keep all sticks the same or can I look for something else with the same speeds but cheaper?

You can use a different brand name memory as long as everything else is identical. (Cas, Voltage, and timings). I always Match my Ram just to keep them a matching set.

I have the 850w version and I like it.

I rarely match my ram, I know its preferred, but just know your system will likely default to the slower timing (if it doesnt do it on its own you may have issues). I bought some ddr1600 to pair with my 1333, just because of what was a real good deal at the time all is well. What is the rest of your system like, Is there any need to put 4 more gb of ddr2? Do you plan on upgrading cpu/board anytime soon?

edit, I did make sure my voltages matched. That is def. important, but kind of common sense.

Yes...

My S939 rig just died, so I had to move my server to the living room to replace it (otherwise I would get killed by wife).

Anyways, I've been debating between building a new Sandy Bridge system and using my current desktop (Q6600) to replace the server, but don't have the money ATM. So I've decided to do the following:

Buy 4GB of Ram and new PSU, so I can OC my Q6600 (aiming @ 3.6Ghz) and install Linux(VMware) to replace my server...

Instead of spending 1K+ with a new Sandy Bridge build, I'll be spending $200-$250.
Makes sense?

sounds fine to me. as mentioned above, make sure you get the same voltage, speed, and timings -- in that order of importance.

Would a Seasonic X750 be better than the Corsair listed on post #2?
It only costs $5 more I believe... (I feel so bad they were on special for $129.99 AC and I didn't get it)
