OK Just put together a new HTPC, components below, and the Seasonic PSU that I bought came DOA. (or so I thought.) I put everything together and no love turning it on, I grabbed the old PSU that was in the old tower and plugged it in and presto, it came on.
I was tempted to send it back today, but I figured that I should at least test before I did to make sure. Well, I took the Seasonic and popped it into the old tower and it came right on! I have never heard of an incompatibility with a MB/Case any ideas why it doesn't work?

Seasonic s12II
4200+
Foxconn NF4UK8AA-8EKRS

Update: for sh*ts and giggles, I took the power switch out of my old tower and plugged it in, still no dice. It's really looking to be a MB thing. I just have never heard of such a thing..

This is a wierd one. We have noticed that some motherboards seem to cause unusual PSU hiccups. It often has to do with loading.

Are both system using or not using the PCI-E cable? Do they both have the same amount of fans and drives? It sounds silly, but sometimes having too little load on a rail or an unbalanced load will cause the unit not fire up.

My might swap video cards (if just one is using the PCI-E connector) or try to match the fan and drive loading. It can't hurt to test.

I just tried both boards naked. The old abit no issue, but nothing from the foxconn. I have tried a bunch of different combos, always the same result. I was under the impression that the power switch just closes a loop to fire things up, is that true? Any thoughts on how to get this one to fireup? I hate sending stuff back to Newegg, I'm for sure going to get hitup with a 15% restock.

I may crack open my 965ds3 give it a whirl just to see later...

Hi, the case switch just makes a momentary connection. You can do th same thing by taking a small blade screwdriver and touching the two pins that the switch hooks to. That should start it up if it's going to.

You can also test with the PSU disconnected from the board:

You can leave drives and fans attached. That will tell you if the units has any life.

Thanks for the link, that worked perfectly. Unfortunately, the foxconn doesn't like this PSU. I figure I'll use this PSU in my NAS instead. Recommendations for a similar PSU that is quiet for HTPC use?

I happen to know that the foxconn board in your original post is the only motherboard that does not work with the Corsair PSUs in our extensive testing. Since your Seasonic uses a similar circuit board and overall internal design, I imagine it's also incompatible with that.

Hmmph. I guess that's why it's a $49 MB:rolleyes: . I was figuring that some of the other hardware would end up being the compatibility issue, just not the PSU.

I think I may return the Foxconn inlew of my normal brands, but 939 socket boards are going away fast it seems.
