Hi everyone,

here are my specs,

Antec Nine Hundred
Asus P5b-E
Core 2 Duo E6300 (stock fan)
2GB XMS2 Dominator PC6400
nVidia 7950GT
Vantec 520Watt PSU (about 3 years old)
2 SATA HD's
2 DVD Drives
6 Fans

I am currently OC'ed at 3Ghz (bus 429)
1.3125VCore
Memory is at 429x2 = 858 4-4-4-12
Core Temp is 45C idle

I cant seem to get over the 3.01Ghz mount. I think it's either my ram (corsairs apparently switched up ICs) or my PSU (it's about 3 years old, but been very reliable). Do you guys think it might be my PSU? or am I just jumping to conclusions?

When I go to about 3.05 or 3.1Ghz it will boot to windows logon screen. I try to logon and it hangs. Sometimes it'll give me a BSOD (very rare) with similar OC settings.

I'm just trying to pinpoint where I'm going wrong, or if it's a hardware issue.

Vantec 520w ??? Never heard of this.... If I never heard of it, it mean it may not be a reliable model you have in your hands. Getting a reliable one would probably help but I need to know the exact specs of this Vantec psu like the +12V rail amps and such, from the side sticker.

Well......you are OCing so it is YMMV with no gaurentees. What model Vantec exactly? Vantec's are in general Topower units so it most likely isn't that bad :)

That 12V rail is pretty weak, especially for a modern high-end system. Throw in 3 years of degradation, and I'd say it's time to replace it.

Very weak for the current setup so I second the new psu.

can you guys suggest a good psu for my needs then? Having modular cables would be nice, but not a defining factor. I dont plan on running SLI, but I do plan on getting a nvidia 8800 in the next couple/few months, along with OCing, so stability is a must.

I would like to keep price at around 150. I just want to make sure I get a good psu that will last me for at least as long as this one has, and not make the mistake of getting a subpar psu.

threshin, that link u gave points me to the The Recoton AD300 Universal AC Adapter - 300mA :)

I was looking at the PCP&C 750, but the price is kinda high, only place I really know of to buy it would be newegg, and they want 200 :(

see how much it is direct from PCP&C

No need to go overboard with the psu and I suggest the corsair HX620 modular psu for your needs :)

yeah that was the next unit I had in mind. Was just reading reviews on it from JohnnyGuru, and it seemed like a very good contender, and right around my price range. I'm also contemplating on a couple others. Here's what I've narrowed it down to.

Seasonic S12 Energy Plus 650W Power Supply - 149.99
Corsair HX620 - 159.99
Seasonic M12 700W Modular (just threw this in here because it had VERY good reviews, but is it worth spending extra for?) - 189.99
PC Power & Cooling Silencer 610W EPS12V - 159.99
CoolerMaster eXtreme Power 600w - 79.99
OCZ GameXStream 700W - 129.99
Silverstone SST-ST75F 750W Modular - 149.99

help me weed out the best one for price vs performance, its soooo hard to decide.

Seasonic S12 Energy Plus 650W Power Supply - 149.99

Good choice

Corsair HX620 - 159.99

good choice

Seasonic M12 700W Modular (just threw this in here because it had VERY good reviews, but is it worth spending extra for?) - 189.99

If you want to spend extra, go nuts.

PC Power & Cooling Silencer 610W EPS12V - 159.99

Better choices all around.

CoolerMaster eXtreme Power 600w - 79.99

avoid. Not 600w. Rebadged 500w seventeam unit.

OCZ GameXStream 700W - 129.99

Excessive ripple. Many better choices.

Silverstone SST-ST75F 750W Modular - 149.99

Good choice, cheap, modular.

Go with the HX 620.
