So my psu just blew up. Spark and smoke. Trouble is dunno if anything else got damaged and I cant get a replacement until Monday. Is there a way to check out if anything is damaged?

The PSU was a Thermaltake TR2 1000V I've had it since 2008.

Any help would be most appreciated most important would be my drives.

P.S. The wierd thing is that it was connected to the UPS and that is still workinog but I tried to conenct the psu again and the UPS immediately switched off.

If it looks charred, it might be broken.
There no way to know if something works ok until you test if it works ok.

That means the failure is probably in the low voltage side of the PSU. I'm betting on one of those big diode packs being shorted.

An old thread of mine might be relevant.
You got a shitty ThermalTake, hence your current situation. Those who don't ask or who don't know better end up paying far too much for such a shitty PSU.
>_<

So i got my new PSU which is the XFX 1050W pro and im trying to install it. Now the weird thing is the CPU cable one end fits both PSU and the motherboard but the other end is weird I've attached a picture.

They look the same as mine.
It would help if you explain what you find weird about it.

Whats weird about it? Its an EPS 8-pin which can be split to P4 4-pin.

Yea the Thermaltake TR2 units were shitty PSUs even when new...count yourself lucky it didn't take your house with it....and buy a better PSU this time ;)

i tried only one of them fit the other is all the same shape. the one that fit has 2 square plugs diagonally

I cant tell what you said.
Fit the one with square plugs "the right way round" in whichever socket it fits, then fit the other one in the remaining socket.

My plugs are mirror images of each other, both have square pegs.
In your case, the non square (angled edge) pegs should fit in the square holes as they are the same but with plastic missing, they should go in.

Its ok.
I am wondering if I'm missing something though.
Whatever you do, dont force it, try each plug on its own to make sure it fits ok.
Do you have another similar cable that came with the PSU?

Alright everything is working thank the gods!! Thank you all for the help especially Nenu rock on hard
