PSU Issue?

Not really sure what is going on but the pc shuts down or reboots unexpectedly. This last time I was able to witness the pc just going off like it was unplugged. I looked through the window and see the mboard lights on but the power switch does not work. I have to unplug and plug it back in to come on. I am at a bit of a loss. The pc is at idle when this happens.

core i7-3970k @ 4.5 auto OC
Asus p8z77-v deluxe
16 gig geil ddr3 1600
gtx 680
Corsair HX1000 psu
Corsair full tower

personally i'd load the bios defaults (all stock CPU voltage/clock settings etc) to see if the system was still unstable. if at stock and the PC still shuts off, i'd methodically test each part in another system.

it could as simple as a heat issue and only require reapplying TIM to CPU or MCH.

Ive run intel burn and cinebench with no problems. all stock. I have real temp up and showing 35 degrees. Its starting to happen more frequent it seems. The pc just goes black.

you'll probably need to do some trouble-shooting, like removing anything you don't need for a basic boot. before going there maybe dust your case and unplug everything and reconnect then run the PC again to see if it's still powering off.

if this doesn't get you anywhere, you'll need to start swapping parts in an attempt to isolate the problem component. i'd start with the PSU & MB.

when you start the system after a failure, does it boot to a clean desktop or does it resume from it previous state (programs, browser, explorer windows open etc?)

The only experience I have with a psu failing happened to me twice. In both instances the pc locked up but i could still move the mouse cursor, then it occurred more frequently up until it was unable to get into windows. However Aphasia is right in saying trouble shooting is the way to go.. i tried a new psu and it fixed the issue immediately.

Well not sure where to start. I really dont have another setup to swap parts from so I would be playing the new part dart board. The computer goes black and restarts. The event log sometimes says the computer shutdown unexpectedly but sometimes says nothing. It can happen playing a game or looking at web pages. Also happens when I'm not even on it. Everything is at stock and the temps are normal ie around 35.

that is going to be a bit tough.. I was googled it, one of the answers that came back was to disable the auto-restart function which would cause the computer to BSOD and give error codes. Other then that have you started doing as aphasia mentioned? start by removing all additional hardware and test each part.

you can pull all of the ram and start the pc if it beeps I believe the mobo isnt the issue.
it could still be the psu, just in an earlier stage of broken then mine.. at any rate I would disconnect everything non-essential and begin by testing the ram.

Yah, I disabled auto restart and that didnt make a difference still rebooted on its own. I started with the PSU I found an OCZ 850 and have it hooked up so far so good gonna give it a while to see if restarts.

I hate ocz.. The two power supplies I had that went were both ocz, modxstream and Fatality but good luck dude

Well its what I had lying around. So far though the computer has been stable, might look into RMA my HX1000.

Thats kool.. im not sure if ocz is to blame.. it could just be microcenter who got a shitty load of parts for all i know

Well I installed the OCZ in the computer case, Obsidian 700D, and the system started doing it again, shutting down, rebooting unexpectedly just like before. Hmm now what? The system is stable with either PSU outside the case but not inside. The only thing I can think of is the ATX connector and CPU connector are barely reaching where they plug into mobo at. Maybe the connection is too tight or bent? I'm going to try some extenders and see what happens.

You have a grounding issue. Make sure all the stand offs on the mobo ar tight and in the correct positions.
