PSU fried MB?

I recently returned my NeoPower480 via RMA for warranty repair. The NeoPower480 abruptly stopped working after 2 years. They sent me a replacement, a NeoHE 500.

I hooked up the NeoHE 500 to my system and tried to turn it on, nothing happened, the system would not turn on. I triple checked every connection and tried turning the system on again. This time I heard a loud "electrical sounding" SNAP, and the computer would still not turn on, a burning smell started to come from the PSU, however there was no smoke.

Fearing the PSU was defective I immediately unplugged it.

I tried hooking the motherboard up to my backup PSU, a COMPUSA Precision Power 450W, the same PSU I've used in the past and the one I was using while I was waiting for my RMA to return, it would not turn on. I than tried hooking it up to a second PSU, which is a brand new BFG650W, purchased to replace the defective NeoHE 500, still it would not turn on. I tried both of these with the absolute minimum load.

I assumed the NeoHE 500 caused damage to my motherboard since I knew that the PSU's were 100% working, since there was no other way to verify this I went to the store to buy a replacement, after hooking up the replacement motherboard and all the components(video card, hard drives, DVD, etc...) to the new PSU I bought the system immediately turned on and everything is in working condition (THANK GOD!), expect the original motherboard.

I'm waiting to hear from Antec, could a defective PSU fry the motherboard like that?

The power light goes on when I hook up the PSU's to the original MB, however it won't start the system.

I had something similar happen a wile back and found that if I reset the Cmos it booted up fine after that. Might work for you, worth a try. Good luck.

Yep, this was one of the first things I did also, no luck.

I haven't given up on the MB 100% yet, maybe I'll try it again.
