Hello, I'm looking for a power supply for dual PCB 295s in quad sli, About how much wattage will I need and how many amps on the 12v rail?

Also, I'd really prefer this PSU to have blue LEDs in someway. It will be for a display more than anything else so looks are important.

I was looking at the kingwin laser but the reviews for it are kind of lack luster. It barely makes bronze rating, although based on looks that's the one I would choose. So if there is another higher end one that looks like the kingwin laser, that would be good?

Help me find one please.

The OCN thread wasn't enough? ;)

The Lazer 850 is budget solution... the typed of solution your requested if I understand that thread correctly.. a high end choice would be a Lazer Gold unit, but it's not cheap.

Haha, The I'm kinda of new to Hard OC so I figured I'd see what the community is like here and compare! :)

And actually the OCN thread made me realize that I really shouldn't waste the 295 quad sli capababilites so I'm looking for a more quality unit. But the looks of the PSU still remain the primary factor in my decision.

I got the 295s for a RETARDED good price and that's mostly why I'm going with them, that any they look stunning with the koolance blocks. I plan to make a build log on OCN with what I do with them ;)

But In the mean time, I need a PSU for them. haha

Seasonic, Corsair, High end XFX, and High end Kingwin are generally surefire PSUs. 800+ watts should be sufficent for that aswell. Whats the full specs on your rig?

its gonna be a i7 first gen quad core, about 5 hard drives, 2 295s quad sli, and 3 pumps, about 10 fans.

Thats a fair amount of kit. 850 should be fine from a good brand. More can't hurt though. The 1000w platinums from Seasonic, XFX and Kingwin are very nice.

Under full load 295s in Quad SLI only consume ~290W.

Those pumps running off the 12v rail really depend on what pumps they are, to determine what they will draw. Fans barely draw ~3W so not really a concern. The hard drives are on the 5v rail, therefore they generally aren't included with PSU Wattage rating since the 5v RAIL on good PSUs aren't factored in.

I don't think that's correct. One 295 alone in full load should be over 300 watts.

290w for all four gpus ? That seems really low, is that correct? That's not nearly as bad as i thought woah.

Nvidia and AMD really do try to improve power consumption each generation. Most people really don't need nearly as much as I think. I'm running 750W, doubt I need more than 500W.

I know they keep improving every generation, but this is 3 generations old now. 297 seems right for one card but not for both, idk

Google Gtx 295 power consumption and you will see many sites that show one 295 using 300+ watts during load. I would say a 800w PS or better would be a good idea.

Yeah that's what I'm thinking. Even that guru review has the system sitting at 717 watts so I mean.

I was originally planning on using two of these for a display system so I wasn't going to worry about the PSU other than the looks, but now I've changed my mind and decided I will use them as my main GPUs for gaming and on my main rig so I got concerned with the effecieny of most of the power supplies that "look cool" and I realized I wanted more reliable power and that there arn't a lot of PSUs that offer the nice performance and "look" I was going for with my theme. I think ultimately I will have to just buy a quality unit and either mod it for my appearance needs or just live with it.
