building new rig for friend:
core i7 920
MSI micro x58
gtx 280 (no sli)
2 x hdds
3 x 2gb ram
3 or 4 fans

NO overclocking. The parts above are not up for discussion.
However, i do need a psu to power the machine, and im not quite sure what to get.

i can get antec 650watt (ea650) for $71.09 + tax
or BFG gx 550 watt (bfgr550wgxpsu) 55.33 + tax

If the bfg is enough i'd rather get that. However, im not too sure about the quality of bfg PSU's or this specific unit. I'm really not even too sure about the target peak power to be looking for or how much peak amperage i should look for on each individual 12v rail (or any other rails for that matter).

If you guys have any recommendations i'm listening or find something better for me online i'm listening and greatful (grateful?)

I suggest the Antec Earthwatts
The BFG GX is rated at Peak and 25C...so it is more likely to be around 450W continuous at normal operating temperatures.

I'm curious... where did you find the GX-550 for only $55.33?

yeah, i was leaning more towards the antec too, if anybody has another suggestions for a little cheaper though im still open.

Thank you very much.

the two PSUs i mentioned are the only two reasonable PSU's we have in stock in this store. Everything else is dynex and rocketfish... While dynex cables, keyboards, and mice are great, im not up for their power supplies. Even though the discount on those things is awesome.

edit: we also have the 500watt antec, i would've liked to go with that, however, it's missing 4pin pci express adapter...

right...those confusing names :p I bet Zap was behind that
Just thank your lucky stars that they aren't as bad as nVidia with the naming schemes ;).

Go with the Earthwatts then. It's a much better PSU.
