PSU Fan facing down

Im using a HAF922 and HX850 psu... I have mounted my psu with the fan facing towards the bottom of my case which has little vent cutouts... The exhaust area of the psu gets quite hot during gaming, is this normal? It's sitting directly on carpet, should I shift the psu back so the fan faces upwards?

Is the case raised off the ground at all? I'd say you should give it at least half an inch of clearance above the carpet. If you can't do that, then mount the PSU with the fan facing upwards.

I would not put any modern computer cases directly on carpet since the carpet material will very likely block all of the bottom ventilation holes. Instead, I would spend a few dollars at a hardware or home improvement store and buy a 12" x 2 ft shelf or hardwood board, and put the PC onto that.

Make sure it has at least little bit of clearance above the carpet. As a super cheap ghetto solution you can tape together pennies and put them underneath the feet. I've done that in the past for LANs and such where I only needed a temporary solution.

This is what I did to my Daughter's HAF 922 as well. It works well and on the cheap.
