I've been looking around for a new PSU but I can't seem to find one that has everything I want:

  • silver/aluminium in colour with blue LED fan (to match my case)
  • 600 - 650 watts - good stable power
  • modular
  • under £100
best I can find so far is this:

it seems to have everything except it isn't modular, and the price is pretty good too, does anyone know if there is a PSU out there that does have what I need?

You should probably put your system specs you plan to use this PSU with.

Color of the PSU should be the last thing on your list of things to worry about. ;)

well I've thought about that already and with the components I'm planning to use it'll need to be in the 600w - 650w range like I said, modular if possible, and less than £100

you're right that colour and LED fans is a relatively unimportant factor, but having said that I'd like it to match my case - I'm not sticking a black PSU with green LED fans in a silver case with blue fans I'm sure you understand, I actually think finding a modular one is less important because I've got plenty of space to tuck extra cable away anyway

the reason I want one with an LED fan is because I want to light my case up in as many places as possible but I don't want to have any cathodes in it

so if anyone knows of a PSU that matches my criteria please post

Intel Quad Core Q6600
MSI 512mb 8800GT OC-660mhz (maybe a different 8800GT)
ASUS Striker Extreme
Corsair XMS2Pro PC2-6400 2GB CAS4 (probably upgrading to 4gb later)
Seagate Barracuda 7200.10 250GB
old IDE hard drive

now someone will probably say I don't need as much as 600w, but I'm taking into account that I'll be doing 3D rendering which is a heavy load on the GPU and processor, and I'm taking into account that the PC will probably be on 24/7 and the PSU will start to wear out after a while

Actually, I'm pretty sure that "Silver Power" is "Black" in person. It just looks greyish because of the lighting.

arrghh! I was afraid of that, it was really hard to tell from the pictures if it was silver or just reflecting a white background, well I guess that one's off the list then

hey guys what do you think of this one?

I think this could be the one! :D
Not sure if the Neopowers are ok or not.
even better I just found these 2, debating which one is better at the moment

I've never heard of kingwin before but I just read a great review of the 600w one

Quit going in the wrong direction.

Pick this one instead.

No offense, but those are pretty poor reviews. No crossloading, no torture testing, using software to test wattage, voltage, and amperage?! Software isn't the greatest at that. You need a proper machine to test that stuff.

I like how the first review had a 68% efficiency on a 188W load. That is pretty poor, especially at such a low load.

Second review was run so shortly, I don't know how you can properly accept those numbers.

If you look at the Corsair review (and any review really) here, you will see how long and how hard those units are tested.

I stick to what I have said before; Those reviews are not really 'reviews' as much as paid advertising. They load it up in a system which puts maybe 200w onto the psu, measure the voltage with software or bios (or rarely, a multimeter). They don't do ripple, and even if they did, it would not be accurate since the system pwm filters ripple. They don't do crossloading, or anything else which would be part of a proper review.

Skip it. Buy a good psu, and slap in a fan.

ok I didn't know that

thanks guys, I won't be changing any fans myself though, opening these things up normally voids the warranty
