PSU Cable Question

Ok, I am planning on making some custom cables for my PSU (its a non-modular PSU) in order to hide the cables as much as possible. My question is, what is the "normal" wire gauge used in PSU wires? I don't want to go with to small of a wire and have it overheat and burn the insulation (had that happen with a remote turn on lead in a car stereo system and it sucked).

i was going to just use red, yellow, and black to match the wires on my psu (and so i don't get confused). now i just gotta get some decent wire and molex connectors.

well if you want to be real trick about it
you can get gold plated molex pins, instead of the standard tin plated (superior conductivity lower resistance)
both solder and crimp them on, and add grounded sheilding as or under the sheathing material, and finally add ferrite torroids (like you see on monitor cables and some after market power cables) which cut down EMI (see > REMIC Control Tech)

all of which is likely overkill
but overkill makes these forums run :p

the gold plated pins, soldering and fatter wires (16AGW) will reduce resistance (ohms)
the sheilding and ferrites will lower ACripple (noise) and reduce Electromagnetic Interference from the cables on other components

i doubt i will do shielding or gold plated connectors since teh rest of my connectors aren't gold plated. i am considering completely ripping my PSU apart and adding just the wires i want/need to it though.

now here is a good question, where is a good place to buy glack, red, and yellow 16 gauge wire from? i would just goto napa monday, but i want something a little more flexible than that.
