Why is it so difficult to find the weight of PSU's from the vendors and sometimes even the manufacturers? I know weight isn't everything, but it is a good indication of quality.

I mean the more copper windings, iron cores, rectifiers etc. are a damned good thing, and also cost more in raw materials. I wonder if there is any kind of website that gives specific PSU weight comparisons? I did read something a while back that did give some very general information, but I think it was a bit dated. When I build a new system, this will be a factor in choosing a PSU.

Don't go by weight. Yeah it has some bearing but there are better metrics.

That's true, however , I find it a bit strange that vendors for the most part don't even list the shipping weight. Is this by done on purpose?

Found that article

here

I've heard of shady manufacturers even placing some "weights" inside the cases of their cheap PSU's to make them seem better. Luckily, I haven't actually seen it or you would have all seen the news: "Large man throw computer parts through concrete wall at local CompUSA while making gorilla noises. Full story at 11". :D

LMAO, new marketing strategy, internally lead lined PSU enclosures for EMI elimination
